Library and FHS Lookups / LMA LOOKUP PLEASE
« on: Thursday 19 February 09 09:54 GMT (UK)  »
Is there anyone that would kindly be able to spare a look-up for a birth/baptism?

My 3 x gt grandfather James Hubbard was born circa 1794/1796 and according to census returns was born in Shoreditch, different census returns vary slightly as do the age!

James married a second time in 1849 at the age of 55 and this showed the name of his father which was Samuel Hubbard - Chairmaker.  For information the Hubbards seem to have lived around the George Street, Shoreditch area as this address has tended to crop up quite a bit on various BMD certificates additionally the occupation of Cabinet Maker/Carvers.

If anyone is able to spare some of their time it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance. :)

Hi Wozzle

Thank you for taking the time re my Roe's.  Re a death for Alice, I seriously do not know, unfortunately I haven't got that far yet, all I know is that Herbert stated that his father was deceased at the time of 1911, but Im unaware in respect of his mother.  Im presuming though there might be reference to her full name i.e Alice Ann Sellers Roe or at least the initials if she were to have died, but then possibly not  :-\,

Thank you again for looking.

Hi again
Its me again - may I be so bold if you are all still online and ask if there is any chance of finding my gang in the 1901?? :P - I have found my Herbert on the 1901 living away from home, but haven't managed to locate his parents or Ernie, Im guessing it should be Ernest - Im hoping that George is dead by 1911 or at least before August 1911 - oh sorry sounds horrid of me,  as if he is then this will be another plus point and another pointer towards him definitely being mine.  Herbert married in 1911 and put his father as being dec'd.

Hope Im not being to cheeky, but Im desparate to find more clues to see if Im on the right track and to try and prove that George and Alice are definitely my ancestors?? - Ive already barked up the wrong tree once!

Heres hoping.

Hi everyone  ;)

Why didn't I think of that - Bertie short for Herbert?! god I really do need to get to grips with this FH again.  Do you think this is a good possibility then.  Did my George Roe become a traveller after being a Gentleman, umm, wonder why??

Thank you Wozzle but I do actually have the birth for my Herbert, received last week and its opened up new avenues for me, but been struggling though.

Funnily enough Ive just looked again the birth certificate whilst Im replying to this post, and it doesn't actually state an actual address for birth within the registration district of Horsham, it just says born "14th June 1883 MAPLEHURST, Northwich" - bingo it must be the same guy - hooooray, thank you to all of you that have kindly replied.

Regards.

Hi would SKS be able to check the 1891 census.  I've looked for quite a few days now and have been unable to locate them, it may well be that they have been transcribed incorrectly as I have tried various different way without any luck.

George Alfred Roe born circa 1854 Middlesex, possibly Stepney
Alice Ann S Roe (nee Wintjen) born circa 1854 Stepney
Herbert Roe born 1883 Horsham Sussex

In 1883 George Roe occupation was "Gentleman"

Hi Hepburn

Thank you for replying to my post - do you think then in this case that I could comfortably be looking at the same man? he was making sufficient money from his own means i.e "income derived from house" that in 1883 he stated he was a Gentleman.

Hi

I have possibly found an ancestor of mine in the 1881 Census living at the time in the Parish of Hammersmith Parlimentary borough of Chelsea.  His occupation at the time was "Income derived from house" he was actually living with his sister and her husband whose occupation was also the same.  My question is a few years later in 1883 on a birth certificate of my possible gt grandfather his occupation states "Gentleman".

Is there any connection between these occupations in anyway??

Thanking you in advance.

Hi troods

Thank you very much - I agree with you, that this could be my guy, even though the birth year differs??, I think I may have also found him in the 1891 census and if this is him he was living with parents called Herbert Frank Roe and Caroline.  Trouble is and going back to his marriage certificate it did state that his father was Herbert George and at the time he married in August 1911 his father was dec'd.  After a little further research I found a death registered in 1918 for a Herbert F Roe in Berkshire could be a coincidence, but now doubtful again that this is my guy?

Family story says that my Herbert came from a family of Gentry - could this be him, this Herbert Frank Roe seems to have a job of high importance!!

Finally, I do have a memorial card which states that my Herbert died 5th March 1952 at the age of 68 which here indicates a birth year of 1883/1884??

Thank you for your time.
