I know this post is too late for Alex but for anyone else interested in the Western Necropolis, the Church of the Latter day Saints had the records I was looking for, plot details for burials 1919-1921 but the dates extend further than that- check their website. I think that is the cheapest way to access Western Necropolis files for the foreseeable future and the files can be ordered to your local centre- worldwide for a relatively small fee.

It was my first visit to the LDS family history centre & I cant recommend it enough. After a few less than helpful exchanges at the Mitchell it was so refreshing to meet lovely people willing to help you  find your records. Although you will need to order Western Necropolis files, they also hold a lot of other records on site, so worth a visit!

Also, as the centre I used was in Julian Street Glasgow I could hop foot it up the the cemetery straight afterwards & found my grave...albeit without headstone (a lot are missing or over, a real shame!) but anyway it is located now none the less.

Hi Alex

This may have come too late but the LDS hold records for Western Necropolis. You have to order them to your local LDS family history centre. I have ordered some Microfilms for Western Necropolis but havent yet viewed but they may be the ones you are looking for & it might be worth a try:

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day saints,
35 Julian Ave Glasgow G12 0RB

Good luck,
Gillian

Thank you all for your help,

I have just received a call from the Glasgow Family History Centre from a very nice chap who advises that the films are indeed there & I can go & see them now....apparently they left me a message when it came in, which is quite likely as the kids have been known to erase messages on the answer machine  :-\ , although online my order status is still showing as 'requested' rather than 'available'....anyway they keep them for three months so no harm done.

Thanks again,

Gill

Hi Gaie,

Thanks for your reply, much appreciated. If that's the case then it would make the wait understandable, it is just the lack of information from the site that made me think something had gone wrong. I am still waiting for further information from their Glasgow Family History Centre.....

1592901 & 1598718 are the film numbers- relating to Glasgow's Western Necropolis Cemetery.

Thanks again!

Gill

Thanks guys,

I took your advise & contacted them...they are looking into it for me. I will let you know how it goes- if I get the info I'm looking for the wait will be worth it!!!

Thanks again! ;D

Hi there,
Can anyone advise me how to use the LDS family history centres please. I didnt find their website very easy to use- maybe that's just me :-\....
Anyway I ordered & paid for two films on the 7th Jan (two months ago) and my order is still showing as 'requested'. Do you know if this is a usual amount of time to wait for the film to arrive? When I call the Glasgow centre there is never anyone there to take my call, its all a little bit frustrating ???.
Thanks in advance, Gill.

Midstonehall or Neilsland House, as it later became known, was extended around 1891-1893, I would imagine that the fountain went in around then...no idea about powering pumps though.

We do know that pipes were laid over the estate coming from Torlake, behind Torheads Farm.

I did try to post a photo of the house and fountain but unfortunately the file was too large...any suggestions on how to overcome this?
