Dear UKD
All done and surprisingly easy. Thank you for your very generous help - I  am now going to try and find the grave.

Thanks UKD, that's very kind.
Dorothy Elizabeth Emily Larkin (nee Robins) 23.07.1940, aged 33.  I believe on the 1911 census she doesn't have the Elizabeth, but on the memorial card it is there.

Dear All
Thank you so much for your advice and knowledge - patience and perseverence are obviously the virtues required by the family tree historian.

I am looking for the death certificate of my aunt who died in 1940. I fill in all the fields - date of death, birth year, full name, parents' names, husband's name, but it still shows a nil return. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks again folks. I have a plot number, so assuming I am in the correct cemetery, I will not have to wander around for too long - the weather forecast is not exactly favourable for lengthy strolls in the open air.

Thanks everyone  - I'm amazed at the speed of those replies! You could be correct about the South Ealing Cemetary - I will try and avoid looking in allotments when I go in search this weekend.

I want to find the grave of an aunt who was buried in here in 1940, but it no longer seems to exist. Has it been amalgamated with another cemetery, or simple re-named?
Thanks in advance RootsChatters.

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Portobello Road School
« on: Saturday 28 February 09 21:17 GMT (UK)  »
Loads and loads of thanks to all those kind souls who gave me information - please keep it coming. The London Metropolitan Archives are a fab place and through them I have a map of the area in the 1930's which show the school just to the north of Lancaster Rd as Paul said. The photo of the school sign is a real treasure! Thanks Meriel. Does anyone know how I might get hold of the board of governor's records (assuming that they had a governing body which kept records), or any other information about the staff. The school log books are mainly about the teaching staff and the non-teaching staff don't get a mention. RootsChat is a real joy!

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Portobello Road School
« on: Saturday 14 February 09 18:11 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone shed some light on exactly where the Portobello Road School in London, is or used to be? My grandfather was the live-in caretaker in the 1930s but I cannot find any trace of the building. I have been told that it could have changed its name to the Sir Isaac Newton school, but this has been impossible to prove. How can I find out where it was or is, and if it has been demolished? Many thanks in advance.
