Glamorganshire Completed Lookups / Re: Access to registers ....

Great to hear that you've found them.  If you check the bereavement services website you will see that Aberfan is the closest cemetery to where you last had them living.

If you want to get the plot number and pm me I'll pop along there on the weekend (weather permitting) and get a photo.

Have you tried contacting the local council's bereavement services?  I've always found them very helpful.

Many thanks to you Terry for your prompt reply.

I'm suprized at how old the grave is, I had suspected that the family had lived in the area for generations, this appears to confirm that.  Unfortunately my tree hasn't gone that for back yet! So I will print off the infomation and hope that it slots into place soon.

All the best to you

Hi Terry,

I'd like to take advantage of your kind offer and ask if there are any McTeir's, (McTear) or Olivers?

Many thanks

Hello Stephen,

Thankyou for posting this kind offer.  If you find yourself near Johnstone cemetery would you be so kind as to see if there are graves marked to the following people.  I am led to understand that Thomas was a general contractor & quarry owner and a built a house named "Skiffview" so it is likely that they could afford a grave and monument.

Thomas BLACK c1840 - 28/10/1907 and his wife
Christine McFarlane BLACK 1841 - 14/4/1915

Their children
Ludovic 1872-1933
Thomas 1879-1882
Walter 1882-1945
may also be there too, if there is a marked grave and you find it I would deeply appreciate a photo of it.

Many thanks,
Jan

ps, I live in South Wales and would be happy to return the favour.

Hi Robert,

I have Peter McFarlane BLACK's birth as 23 Nov 1870 in Graham Street, Johnstone. His marriage to Sarah Duffy LOGAN on 20th April 1894 at Quarrelton Road, Johnstone, and three children Thomas 1894, Henry 1898 and Christina 1901.

Thomas and Christina I can trace to Cardiff and have their burial together with their parents, Henry I have nothing on at all!

Thomas BLACK 1894 is my husbands great grandfather. Christina 1901 never married and looked after her mother Sarah right up to her death in 1970 at the fabulous age of 90, Christina died the following year.  The family remember Sarah very well, and it is of note that she hated Wales/Cardiff - calling it "a grimey town".

If Peter 1870 was your uncle does that mean that you are descended from Henry or one of the two children I don't yet know about?  I can't wait to hear back from you and fill in some of the blanks, but I may be a little slow at replying for a few days as I am away from home until Monday and then straight back into work on Tuesday.

All the best to you
Jan
