Hi Bougie,

could you please check for any mention of 3 Huggan family members I am researching, killed in the Great War.
John Huggan husband of Wihelmina Parker, father Thomas Huggan, mother Jessie Douglas.
William Huggan, John's brother.
James Jeffrey Huggan, husband of Isabella Clark, father John Huggan, mother Mary Welsh.

Hi Terie, I also have a photograph of James Jeffrey Huggan - I don't know if it's the same as the one you already have but it's an extract from a local newspaper with a paragraph beneath. If it's different from the one you have pm me and perhaps we can swap images?
Nicola

James J Huggan was a cousin of John and William Huggan.

I believe William and James lived in Hawick and John had immigrated to Canada.
Thanks for any help,

Amanda,
Canada.

Hi, I too am a descendent of Archibald Pettigrew and Isabella Miller. Their daughter Helen was my great great grandmother. She married George Huggan and I descend through their son (also called John Miller HUGGAN).

Hi, thank you for your replies, you have given me information I didn't have regarding the siblings of George Huggan (1855). George and Jemima were my great great grandparents. My maiden name was Huggan, but my Father moved south in his 20's. I have traced the tree as far back as William Huggan & Elizabeth Turnbull (both born c1739). Nicky

Hi there, I just joined rootschat  & read your posting about 1871 listing for Huggans. I searched on ancestry and came up with a slightly different listing for the entry:
George aged 47
jemima aged 44
Catherine aged 18
George  aged 15
James aged 13
Isabella  aged 10
Peter aged 9
Andrew Gray aged 2
living at Green Terrace Hawick
Do you have a copy of the original and do you think this has just been wrongly transcribed?

Also found them in the 1871 census

George aged 47
jemima aged 44
Catherine aged 18
George  aged 15
James aged 13
Jemima aged 10
John aged 7
Andrew Swan aged 2

and also found the following:-

Jemima Huggan nee Rae died September 9th 1894 aged 66 the daughter of John Rae Wool Spinner and Margaret Rae nee Cunning.
Cause of death was Chronic Bronchitis for one month.

Death was registered by Andrew Swan Huggan son

best wishes

Hi there, I am one of the descendents of the Huggan line through George Huggan (1824) and Jemima Rae (1827) who were my GGG Grandparents. Happy to share any information

GEORGE HUGGAN was born c1824 in Jedburgh Rox.Scot.Need his birth date!!
He married Jemima Rae in 1846 in Hawick,Rox.Scot..I think that she might have been born either in Wilton or Hawick c 1827.
They had 8 known children born between 1848 and 1869.The last child was Andrew SWAN Huggan.born 1869 in Hawick.
I believe that his "SWAN" name was either his father's mothers maiden name or his mothers mothers maiden name.
Does anyone have a clue on this? Are you researching this family?
One boy,George Huggan born 1855 married Elizabeth Richardson in 1879.
In 1855 this family lived at 37 Back Row,Hawick.
I would very much like to contact further descendent's of this family.
