Durham / Re: durham miners

Just saw your post about Durham miners. We have Race in our tree also.
Margaret Race, my 3xgrandmother married Henry Robson Greener who was killed in the Fair Lady disaster in 1880 at Leycett, Staffordshire. Margaret Race Greener and several of her children emigrated to Australia after her husband was killed.

Margaret Race's parents were GEORGE RACE and ELIZABETH FORSTER or FOSTER.  George's father may have been George Race also and his mother Mary Baister or Barster.

Margaret had at least one brother GEORGE and sisters ISABELLA and JANE

I wondered if you had any information about these ancestors.

Thanks for your time
Regards
 Brian Hope

Thanks for the reply.  Isabella McKenzie on the James Moran is listed as 26, unmarried.  Murdina, 10 is listed as "under the protection of Isabella McKenzie". Another Isabella is listed as "wife of Talbert " I'll post some more information later today.

My 3x grandmother. She emigrated to Australia in 1839 on the JAMES MORAN in the care of Isabella McKenzie. Her age is listed as 10 in 1839. Both came from Gairloch, R&C as did many others on the same ship.

There were many Morrisons and Mckenzies in Gairloch at the time and also on the James Moran.

Are there any records of early 1800s for Gairloch?

Why did so many people leave at the same time?
