Hi Sue,
I seen your post and a few years ago I also posted a query about Castleton Mills. I have a great grandmother which stated on her sons birth certificate that Castleton Building was her home address. This was in 1860 and also 1875. Her name was Rebecca Ellis. Any info you have on the building and if it was for unwed mothers etc, i would love to hear from you. As I am in Australia I won't be able to attend the open day 😩 Many thanks Carol.

Dear Coldmasta and  Sandymc47, I am not Soofie, my name is Carol and long ago l had the same questions as Soofie because my gg grandmother (Rebecca Ellis) lived at Castleton Buildings and l really was trying to find out what kind of establishment it was. She was an unmarried mother of 3 ( l think) and l thought it maybe was some kind of place for unwed mothers to go to have thier babies. Thankyou for the website on Castleton Mills.

Hi Lizzie, this is fantastic. It was Linda, l am glad she is ok. I use to think that something terrible must have happened, for her not to get back in touch. I hope you can find Sophia's picture, you wouldnt believe how many people here would be thrilled to see what she looked like.  Unfortunately l havent had any luck at all. I even had someone look for me in Germany with no luck so l really dont know, but, to tell you the tructh l havent done much as my mum died and for some reason l havent got back into it like l should. She was a Blanck and l was really doing it for her. But now we have made contact this will inspire me to move along...  My aunty (mums sister) is still very interested along with cousins etc.  So glad you made contact.
bye for now
Carol.

Hi Lizzie, It was so good to see that there is someone else out there trying to find info on Jacob or Sophie. Years ago, over the internet, another lady got intouch saying she was related to christopher and even had a picture of Sophia. Unfortunately she disappeared, she mentioned she was moving into a pub in England, l think, but l never heard from her again. l did email her many times with no response. Do you know this lady ?? l cant remember her name. Anyway we may be able to exchange info as they were my ggg grandparents too.

Hi, thanks heaps for your interest and info. I was lead to believe that Sophia's name was actually Tedeschi some time after initially posting this and that has been my main focus, needless to say with no results. Now with your help and Laurina's l may be in luck. Thanks very much both of you.

Hi Laurina, so sorry for not replying sooner but l have just about given up. l have had no luck. I was aware that he remarried, but not finding any info of his birth details or his first wife l have lost all interest.  That brick wall is a pain.

Hi Soofie, just wondering how you got on  finding info on Castleton Mill. I have the topic in this forum called Ellis in the 1880's and my mystery lady had her babies at Castleton building.

Hi Kathy, the records l have is: Census 1871 Rebecca Unmarried Castleton Buildings, Armley. Census 1881 Rebecca (W) 15 Cottingham St, Armley. The three boys birth certificates all state Castleton Building, whether that is in Cottingham St, I dont know. In 1871 the eldest boy Arthur was one. She then went on and had Darcy 1873 and Sydney 1881. I even checked Darcy (GGrandfather) marriage cert and no fathers name was given.
Thankyou for your interest, hopefully the electoral roll might solve my little mystery. Thanks for suggesting it Wendy.
Carol.
