Lanarkshire / Thank You Folks ...
« on: Saturday 22 January 11 01:52 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there, I asked some questions last year and had some answers, which I gratefully followed up on and wish to extend my Thanks to the good folk on here, who started me on my ancestry journey.

I can't see any of the marriages for the names you mention but here are the closest records

Marriage
1910 REID JAMES MCNICOL and BRILLEY SARAH at CALTON GLASGOW CITY/LANARK

Birth of Thomas B.
1915 REID THOMAS BRILLEY Male at  ST ROLLOX GLASGOW/LANARK

You can view the certificates on SP and the marriage record should give their parents names [/b]

I followed up on the above info' and they are indeed my Grandparents and my father. From this original info, I have now traced my Reid family back to 'Brigton and before that, Aberdeenshire 1746. My Sarah Brillie/Briley side back to Hugh and Mary (Colvin) Brillie Married 1883 Barrhead, St.John's and subsequently, their parents, John and Agnes (McLean)Brillie and Samuel and Sarah Colvin, Barrhead.
This has dispelled my belief that My Auld Irish Granny Sarah, was in fact 'directly' from Ireland (maybe her ancestry will go back there, still hunting.
My purpose of this note is to encourage others to 'stick with it' and to Thank you again for your assistance, freely given and to commend yourselves and this wee site, Thank You, Jimmy Reid

Hi' again, I checked my Birth Cert. and the spelling of this 'Brierley' is correct, not Brilley, as found on the 1910 record. Sad!
My parents Date of Marriage , is Feb.21st.1936, but, no personal Birth Dates? if, in fact, he was the 1915  son of the 1910 Reid marriage, part of it could be correct??
I remember, around about the 50's, ma Dad told us he was 39, which puts him in the right age/time frame, yes?

I went to Sc/People site, sadly, I'm not in possession of credit cards now, due to bankruptcy, so, I have to 'Buy' Tokens through Sterling Money Orders. This will take time as I just D/loaded the form last night.
My journey is just beginning and I thank those who have contributed to my search to date! Thank You for your assistance.

I posted this info for others in the same financial predicament, good luck!

Hmmm! I don't know about any 'David Smiths' but MY whole name is
"James McNicol Reid"
The St.Rollox birth of "Thomas B.Reid" is, I hope, my father for we were brought up in Springburn. St.Rollox is the next district to the south of Springburn.
I'll have to try and stir my old Aunt Agnes (late 80's) and ask her if her Dad and Gran were 'REALLY MARRIED' LoL!
Her memory isn't too good and dates defeat her.
I have to set up an account with SP and investigate further.
Again, I can't thank you enough for these starting points 'sancti' Ta!

That is probably my 'family' although I have the"Brierley/Brilley" spelling wrong and my Granpa's name wrong too??

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Now I have something 'extra' too use in my searches.
I bought 'Search Time' on other sites and achieved NOTHING! and on here, in one day, I have found my Grandads right name, the correct spelling of 'Brilley' again... THANK YOU!!

Oh my God, I'm sorry to have committed a "No! No!" but, as you noted, I'm a 'Newbie' and here I thought I was contributing to a "Reid Thread" and would be providing an answer to THAT REID'S QUERY'
I was unaware that we had to start separate Threads for each 'Family name' please forgive my exuberance and mistake.

I just found your Web page while surfing for "Springburn, Glasgow"
articles/websites. I have held a longing to find out a bit more of my 'family history' only to be thwarted by "Time Limitations" 'buying search time, etc., and getting nowhere.
I will search your site for 'Springburn' threads and I thank you for being here for us 'need to knows'

I have a wee website called "Springburn Place" and if any of your searchers are interested? they may find a 'name' they have on their search list on our pages.
http//springburnplace.proboards50.com/index.cgi  forum no longer exists 2013
Looking forward to some reveals, if you don't mind, I'll post a 'Link' of this site on my website, thank you.
