Yes, that was the place of death and it definitely sounded like he needed something, unless he had gone to the countryside for some fresh air and then got worse instead of better.

ah, good thinking, never thought of that.  Thanks for that info and also for the 1913 occupant

Ann

Have now looked at the census and it was a six roomed house, although it does say that The Haven is Pontrilas.

Herefordshire / Ewyas Harold

The first husband of my aunty died in Ewyas Harold.

Arthur Llewellyn died at The Haven, Ewyas Harold, Dore, Herefordshire on 21 July 1930, aged 38.  The cause of death was Pulmonary Embolism, Mitral Valve Disease and Rheumatic Fever.  The death was notified by Watkin Jones, Uncle, who was present at the death.  There was no post mortem.

I wondered if anyone knew if The Haven was a private house or a nursing home/rest home.

Thanks

Ann

This was a photo of Old Blaina Chapel taken four years ago.  I was told by some locals that for years it had been used as a car repair workshop.

Just in case anyone is thinking of emailing Dawn Gill at Powys Archives I just thought that I would let you know that she has now retired.

Monmouthshire / William Jelly
« on: Tuesday 16 June 09 19:18 BST (UK)  »
William Jelly was my grandfather - married to Margaret.  They lived in Alexander Street, after moving from Abertillery Road, Blaina.
On the 1911 census it states that he worked at the local Co-op, but I don't know how long he worked there, does anyone remember him.
My father was also William Jelly, he was born in 1899, at one time he was a railway clerk (assume this was in Blaina station), however he left the area in the 1930's.
Any snippet of information would be welcome.
(I have all of the BMD certificates of the family, I am after information about what the family were like etc)
Thanks

Monmouthshire / Eva Davies
« on: Sunday 25 January 09 21:42 GMT (UK)  »
Eva was born in 1899 as Sarah Evangeline Davies and was the daughter of Hugh and Mary Davies of the Ffosmaen Inn, Nantyglo.  She died in 1984 in Neville Hall Hospital, Abergavenny after a fall in her home.
By the time of the 1911 census the family had moved to Milfraen House, Nantyglo.
Eva married my father (William Jelly) in 1926.  They divorced in the mid 1940's and she returned to Nantyglo and reverted to her maiden name.
Does anyone remember her?  I wondered what she was like and also I have been told that she was an invalid, but not sure if this is true. :-\
Thanks
Ann

Monmouthshire / Llewellyn family, Abertillery

Hi
This is my first post on here, so bear with me ;D

Does anyone know if there are any descendants of Arthur Llewellyn, born Abertillery 1915 or his brother Claude, born same area in 1920.  Their parents were Elsie and Arthur.

Thanks :)
