Hi Sancti

I have had a look at Jessie Weir born 1862 Lanark/Lanark it turns out that her parents are James Weir and Mary.  So she can't be the one i am looking for.

I have got a list on sp from 1860 to 1880 that i am making my way through.

Hi Elaine

They did have 2 other boys named George and Robert but both of them were born in South Africa.

I know that Robert did not have any children and George had 2.  They were named George and Robert.
James was the oldest, and he  was born in Wishaw, Lanarkshire.  He had 2 children a daughter and a son.  His son is my father in law.  I have asked my Father in law and his cousins if they have any idea when their grandfather James was born and none of them seem to know.

Cheers

Hi There

I would like to thank all of you for all the help you have given me. My mind is going round and round with excitement.   ;D

I have followed up the lead with regards to James Barbour and Sarah Brown, Their son James Barbour marries a Jean Wood Johnston in 1900 and they have a daughter Margaret in the same year.

I will definetly follow up all the other that you have kindly listed.

A big thank you for the marriage passage that was found.   I have however one question on the original birth certificate of James Barbour born 1908 it said that James and Jessie got married in 1907, why did they sometimes get the years wrong?  :)

Once again thank you to all.

Regards

Hi Elaine   :)

Thank you very much for the info.  Both James and Jessie died in South Africa and as far as i know none of the family has a copy of either death certificates.

I have followed the line of f) James Barbour m) Sarah Brown, it turns out that James marries a Jean Wood Johnston in 1900 and they have a daughter Margaret in 1900.  I have even looked to see if Jean perhaps passes away prior to 1907 and did not find any thing. So that could not be the James  i was looking for.  I will take a look at the other James you suggested.

unfortunately not.  I do not have their marriage certif.  i do need to apply for a copy, knowing  the South African system it would take more than 6 mths to get a copy.     My best guestemation is that he was born round about 1874 to 1879.   I know that working on a whim is no good as i have already traced one group of Barbour's from Greenock and it turns out it could be the wrong group.

Thanks

Lanarkshire / James Barbour Scotland - South Africa
« on: Wednesday 15 April 09 09:10 BST (UK)  »

Hi There.

I am looking for James Barbour born in Greenock.  He left Scotland sometime in the early 1900's and returned with a Wife called Jessie Weir in 1908.  Their son James Barbour was born in Wishaw, Lanarkshire in 1908.  I do not have a year of birth for James Barbour the father, this is what i would like to know.  I have also been led to believe that Jessie Weir is also from Scotland.  I know that James Barbour and Jessie Weir got married in 1907 in Krugersdorp South Africa.

I have spoken to our family and no one has any idea when they born or who their parents are.

Could anyone please help....

Regard
