Pembrokeshire Lookup Requests / Re: William Dawkins of Pwllcrochan born 1821

Hello Owen ap Benfro,

We have communicated in the past.  Thank you for helping out again.

I have Harriet living in Hundleton in various census up until 1887. Could never trace them in 1841 census though. But at least there is another piece of the puzzle fitting together!

Your contribution is much appreciated,

Best Wishes, arranquest.

Hello Rhosgoch,

Thank you for your input.

I have William's father alive in 1841, and listed on his first wedding certificate to Esther 1846, but listed as deceased on his second wedding certificate in 1848.

Regards, arranquest

Thank you Senteacher, but that is not my William Dawkins. I have all the paper trail for him, but just cannot track his father. In 1851 William is living with his second wife Maria Dally, and eldest son Thomas in St.Florence.
Think I will have to visit my home county of Pembrokeshire and have a looksee at what they have got in Haverfordwest  ;)

Would appreciate any help with trying to trace the ancestors of above mentioned gentleman who is my 3rd Great Grandfather. I have a copy of his first marriage wedding certificate to Esther Williams in 1848, where it is stated that his father is JOHN DAWKINS - Labourer, but I have come up against a brick wall with John!!

Many Thanks, arranquest

Many Thanks KGarrad,

I've looked at these sites, they were a great help in giving an historical account.

There is another posting on Rootschat  where someone offers to "lookup", and I have asked (giving more details about my Great Grandfather) if they could possibly find anything about the "Buffs" in Pembroke Dock and members there.

Kindest Regards, arranquest

The Common Room / Re: R.A.O.B. or Buffaloes

Hello, I am trying to trace details of my Great Grandfather's life. He was named Frank Besant, lived in Pembroke Dock, and was a member of "the Buffs", in fact they paid for his funeral in 1936, and looked after his widow (Mary Ann) and children. They lived at 40 Military Road, Pennar, Pembroke Dock. In his obituary there is mention of him "After his return to Pembroke Dock (after the First World War) he took a great interest in British Legion work and also served for a time on the Mayor's Poor Relief Committee".

I hope that you can help with any reference to him, or the history of the R.A.O.B. in Pembroke Dock.

Many Thanks, arranquest

Good morning :)

I hope that you can help me!!
Desperately seeking JOHN ARRAN, a private 1st of Foot.

I have documentation leading back to his "wife Jane Arran in Pembrokeshire, where in 1871 she is a widow with 3 children, John 1853'sh, Martha 1854'sh and Annie 1868'sh! The death certificate I have of Jane  states that she is a widow of a John Arran Private  1st of Foot Regiment.

There are no birth certifictaes for the children , and no marriage certificate for her and John.

I have been in contact with  Colonel Mason of the Royal Scots, who was very informative regarding movements of 1st of Foot in Wales in 1853/1854 (they were stationed in Pembrokeshire!).

Also with Kew, but they could not trace John in the 1st Battalion musters of 1852-1854. But I know that they are very exact in their name searches! and maybe Arran was spealt differently!

So, I do hope that you may be able to enlighten me, as to if John served in the Crimea and got injured!!!!

Kinsdest Regards, Lynnette.
