Travelling People / Re: BUCKLAND FAMILY IN 1851( need help!!)
« on: Saturday 21 July 12 09:14 BST (UK)  »
Hi Kirsty,
I lived near Marlow, Buckinghamshire and, in fact, the last job had prior to retiring in 1993 was in Marlow.  I remember the woodlands where the gypsies lived in Marlow.  Then instead of seeing travellers vans, I saw shacks and then as the years went by, these were replaced with brick houses.  I remember my father telling me that he had been warned by his father never to take the horse and cart through that area of Marlow as the gypsies lived there.  (Little did he know that his granny had been a gypsy) but he disregarded his Dad one day and he lost all the eggs he had on the cart!  Ann

How wonderful that you are in our Buckland family clan.  I am sure Tiggy can be of more assistance to you than I as she is descended from that line.  Happy researching.  Ann

Herefordshire Lookup Requests / Re: Hamment STEVENSON
« on: Friday 20 November 09 14:02 GMT (UK)  »
I have now received the Marriage certificate of Hamment and here his name is spelt Hammont and his bride Mary Ann Crane.  They were both married in Suffolk but one rotten thing is that Hammont declares his father is a famer and Mary Ann her father is an agricultural labourer but no parents were present at the wedding.  One a couple who marked with a cross to witness the church wedding.  Toured the census as have no idea of Hammont father's first name and also tried the witness couple, but without success.  Of course they may not have been around in 1841.

Thanks for your help and interest.

Buckinghamshire Completed Look ups / Re: HARE in Beaconsfield census lookup plz
« on: Thursday 22 October 09 13:09 BST (UK)  »
I was born in 1933 in Beaconsfield and remember Hares around then.
I have several Hares in my family tree, connected with the many Almonds of Beaconsfield.

Edward Hare born 1770 abt married 13.4.1796 Elizabeth Almond 1776-1825 Beaconsfield
8 children
Edward, Sarah, James*, Joseph, Elizabeth, Richard, Maria and Lavinia 1816

James married Mary Worley of West Wycombe in 1823

From my point of view, I am more interested in the Almond family and I never came across any of them still in Beaconsfield.

Technical Help / Re: Lost my CD for my hp 3 in 1 Printer
« on: Saturday 17 October 09 16:51 BST (UK)  »
Thank you for your help.  I did visit the Hp website and attempted to down load for my particular scanner cum copier cum printer.  It got my scanner and copier working ONLY.
I then contacted HP on the site and they told me what to do ... four times over, I tried but with no better success.  I got moved up the ladder of seriority and finally was given another alternative and it finally got my printer to work too.  All this took a few days to do as the download took 45 minutes and then I had to do other things.

Thank you for helping me, it is appreciated.  Ann

Hi Vern and Emma,
Well we are all distant cousins.  Timothy Turnit was my second great grandfather.
Well he may not have liked his turnips Vern, but he liked his oats.

I now look at my own father with different eyes.  His eyes were so black, well I could not describe them as brown.  He had dark brown hair and he had that typical Rom look.  Oh I wish I had looked more gypsy like he he he  Romantic old fool aint I?

This snap is my Dad and I....

So sorry, not been able to return to this problem but will soon.
Yes, I went and saw that my 3 in 1 scanner cum printer cum copier was listed.
Yes, I followed the wizard instructions and after ages, and inserting the CE ROM I found, it still does not work.
I will do as you say as soon as I have a moment.
Thanks, Ann

Thanks,  I did go to Control Panel and found scanner printer there and it said "ready".
A windows XP service pack and softward update were both auto installed on my pc when I switched on today.  Not sure what they did but they too nearly half an hour to install.

I will tell you what Control Panel > Printers and other Hardware > View Installed Printers and fax Printers >  PDF-XChange 3.0 > it has a tick beside it and very feint "Ready".

However, from "My Pictures" I can no longer get "Get Pictures from Scanner" etc.
Sorry to sound so dim headed but I am almost 76 years old! he he  Ann

Nice to meet you Grocott (sorry if I got spelling wrong).
Haddenham was and probably is still, the most beautiful small village.  Well, that Aylesbury was once a lovely small market town which we visited about 60 years ago but, to my mind, was ruined by developers and council after WW2.  We liked to visit Thame, th other larger town in the 70s and 80s and that had broad streets where the market was easily accommodated.  I must look out for your family name in the early 1880s census then.  Probably neighbours of my descendents.

Every man and his dog seemed to move to London in the mid to late 1880s, many of my branches went there too.  Guess that was where the work was.  How is your research going?  I had researched my main branches and had reached out to twigs on my home tree and recently lost all my notes and most of my tree due to a horrid virus getting past my actual working securites.  I had new drivers and had no idea how to store but did Email myself on another computer quite a bit of stuff.  Just need to get the darn stuff back now as the other pc is now playing up!  Such is life.  Hope to chat with you more, Ann
