I have a postcard dated 1911 sent by 'C.H.' of The Beehive, Wilton Street, Lozells, Birmingham to 'Mrs Holyoake' at Church Bank, Betley, Nr Crewe.

Not easy to resolve who these characters were, but suspect it ties into:

Arthur Edward Holyoake b. 1878 B'ham + wife Caroline Elizabeth nee Jones.

Arthur b. 1878 was the s/o Abraham Holyoake occ. (1881 & 1891 Census) 'leather cutter' b. B'ham or Dudley 11.10.1850 - d. Aston 1922 & Elizabeth Glover nee Snow 1853 - 1896 who had m. Kings Norton Q3 1873.

Arthur's siblings were:

Gertrude b. 1876
Minnie b. 1880
May Louise b. 1882
James Frederick b. 1884
Albert b. 1892.

Does this help?  Let me know.  Thanks, David

Hello Lydart

I'd also like to buy a copy of 'Penallt, a Village Miscellany', and two copies of the more recent publication.  I'm not local, so could you let me have the contact details for "the elderly gentleman" as well.

Many thanks,

David

Hi Sian

I'm also descended from the same Sarah Griffiths (nee Frost).  Any chance we could discuss and share information?  Thanks, David.

Hi

Just wondering how I can get hold of a copy of the original book as it has some great stories about my ancestors.  My Great Great Aunt was Sarah Griffiths (nee Frost) who you mention in the book was known as the Witch of Tregagle.

I am fairly local so I will either pop up to Monmouth to get a copy or if you could possible let me know the names of the local bookshops I might ask them to post one to me.

Sian

Hi

Nehemiah and Treasure Miles were my great, great grandparents.  Treasure died Q4 1884 and Nehemiah died Q4 1900, so neither will appear ion the 1901 census.  Their son, Nehemiah b. Q3 1884, died of pneumonia on 13.03.1916 while serving (Service No: G/3368) with the 8th Battalion, The Buffs (East Kent Regiment), and is buried (Ref: V.C.8) at Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium.  Happy to send on any other information on this family.

David
