hi Sue

i have only just found this thread and am not sure if you can help.
my gt gt grandfather is listed in the 1851 Census as being a waterman but i have no idea what that means.  His name was listed in the census as Williams Vincent born approx 1805 on Isle of Wight.  he had children born in Hythe Kent, Youghall Ireland and Rye Sussex but as i am in Australia i have no idea what these areas have in common except that they are near water.
i cannot find any other record of him.

Would you be able to help me at all with such basic information?

Kind regards
Maz

hi Shane

Thanks so much for the offer.  :)

My gg grandfathers name was William(s) Vincent.  His sons, who were born in Youghall, were Joseph Hale Vincent and William Thomas Vincent.  They were born around 1839 and 1841.  My gg grandfather would have been about 34 years old when Joseph was born.

Maz

hi Sal

Thanks.
My g-g grandfather was a waterman and seemed to move around a bit so it is very hard to locate any real info. he had 4 children. 2 born in Ireland, 1 in Kent and 1 in Sussex.  Can't find anything on any of them. :(

As you said I hope there is someone out there that can give us a helping hand.
Regards
Maz
