Thank you Carol and Wiggy for your info I was hoping it was a little earlier than you suggest but the age difference between the children fits,

Thanks for your help

Could you please assist in dating this photograph which we believe may be around the 1880s. Also your opinion of the ages of the children and the possibility of the youngest child on the far right being a boy.

Thank you
Anny

I have both baptism and birth cert and both just show Caroline.  Maybe she just preferred being called Mary when she got older.  Thank you for your help.

Thanks for your reply, I hadn't noticed other members of the family changing names. Will look into that aspect in future.

Can anyone help please.
I have Caroline Swift born 1853 in Kingswinford (have birth cert and baptism) and in she's still named Caroline in 1861 (per census) but by 1871 census she's shown as Mary Swift with the same family details and from then is only referred to as Mary in all further documents.  Mary Swift is married in 1871 to James Masters in St Julians, Wellow. I thought that maybe she had changed churches and been baptised again just prior to her marriage but have been unable to verify this, I can only use the internet to search as i'm based in Australia and had no luck so far and can't think of any other reasons for the Christian name change. Any help or guidance would be much appreciated.

I'm descended from John Laws the shoemaker

1. John
2. William, moved to Durham
3.  Annie Dent nee Laws, Durham
4. Henry Dent, Durham
5.  William, my Dad, Durham then Australia with Mum & me.
I'm still in Australia (got two passports as well)

Afraid I haven't really got much more than I've written above. I know johns father was also named John but could never find a baptism for William to identify His mother.  We're you able to find a baptism for George?

Hi janglaschu,

To date I have still be unable to find the baptism of my John Laws born abt 1810 so have two possible sets of parents.  One set being your John & Lydia (possible Bartram) and another being John & Mary (possibly Hill). I also cannot find a baptism for John & Lydia's son Samuel. I think that it is my John Laws b1810 who is with Myra (widow of Samuel) in the 1881 census but would really like to find the baptisms to confirm his parents.

Condolences Claire to you and your family.  Your father will be seriously missed by so many people.  He did a wonderful job and helped so many people, me included.
