Hello Sylvia, I do hope that you have had better results than I have in researching this family.  It has been some time since I visited this line of the tree, so your post comes as something of a pleasant surprise!

May I ask whom you descend from?  Our line comes via a William John, who was a son of John and Margaret.  However, I have not been able to confirm this with certainty.

Regards

Sal

Oh my, it definitely helps Obbie, thank you so much!  This is the closest that I have come to Edward Senior and Mary in years, very exciting!  Off to Google Roscommon GRO.

Thank you!

Hi Listry,

Many thanks, I have the details of the children born to Edward and Norah Cotter.  (I am descended from one of the children).  If you have any tips on how to track Edward back to Ireland I'd be grateful though!  ;)

Listry, thanks for the information you have posted, I have now located their marriage and death records.  My sticky point now is Edward Cotter's life prior to coming to Australia, and unfortunately I've not discovered much on his family apart from parents names and that they came from Cork, Ireland.

Obbie, thank you so much for passing on this information.  The information in your last post is new to me.  I have been concentrating on a different branch of the family and haven't been back to FamilySearch in some time, but I'll go take a look now.  Thanks again, you might have just removed a brick from my wall...!   :)

Monmouthshire / Mahony family in Carniffath, Trevethin, Monmouth?
« on: Wednesday 28 October 09 05:31 GMT (UK)  »
Hello everyone,

I'm trying to find a family with the surname of Mahony/Mahoney who were living in Carniffath, Trevethin in Monmouthshire in 1858.  I have not been able to locate this village unfortunately.  Can anyone tell me if it still exists or not?  Perhaps I have the spelling incorrect, although I have located Trevethin and surmise that it was a small community somewhere nearby?

I have scant information about a Michael John Mahony, who was apparently born in Carniffath on 24/4/1858 but cannot verify it.  Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where to look for this birth?

Kind regards

Hi Leofric,

If thats the case then looking for medals awarded to him should definitely tell me whether he was there or not.  My thanks, this is an excellent lead!

Kind Regards
