This is really helpful thanks. I'll contact the Campbeltown Courier and make a wee trip if they have anything.
Thanks for replying

Argyllshire / Newpapers for Campbeltown Kintyre

Hi,

Can anyone tell me how to start looking for old newspaper stories for Campbeltown, Argyll & Bute around 1890s? My grt-grt-grt gran died of burns and I wanted to see if there was a recording of an accident perhaps.

Many thanks
Rhoda

Hi Just realised that Daniel and Donald are interchangable names and so will be the same person

Hi

Just came across this post and I have this McCallum family in my tree, Daniel McCallum and Margaret Mckillop. Here are the details I have:

Daniel MCCALLUM born 1810 (app.), died Feb 1855 Coalminer.
Married Margaret MCKILLOP on 5 December 1833 in Campbeltown.
Margaret MCKILLOP (known as 'Betsy') born 1810 (app.), died 5 Jan 1891
She and Daniel MCCALLUM had the following children:

    Catherine MCCALLUM (27 Nov 1834- )
    Margaret MCCALLUM (31 Dec 1835- )
Isabella MCCALLUM (25 Feb 1839- died young)
    John MCCALLUM (7 Sep 1840-1876)
Daniel MCCALLUM (13 Jun 1842- died young)
Alexander MCCALLUM (10 Mar 1844- died young)
Alexander MCCALLUM (23 March 1846- died young)
    Mary MCCALLUM (22 Jun 1848- )
    Flora MCCALLUM (28 Nov 1850- )

Mary McCallum married a Robert TODD in 1876 from which my line descends
I'm afraid the fathers name is definitely Daniel and not Donald in this family, which is the same as the headstone above. Let me know if you think this information matches.

Lanarkshire / Re: Stonehouse address

By the 1901 census they have moved to Cambusnethan. I'm guessing they lived in Stonehouse, where they met, and moved to a house when they married.

Lanarkshire / Stonehouse address
« on: Sunday 11 January 09 00:51 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I have the residence of Burncrux Huts, Stonehouse on my great grandparents marriage cert in 1900 and I'd like to find out something about it. I'm thinking it could be service housing for an estate as they are a Labourer and Domestic servant at this address but don't know how to find this out.

I look forward to any tips anyone can give me on this.
