Thanks! I have checked the British Newspaper Archives that's all.

I don't think quickie divorces were possible then either.

Rosie thanks for the offer, can I pm you?

Thanks for those replies. I have searched there but the name does not come up. I am suspecting that if someone left a wife in one year and married again the next, that it would not have been long enough for a divorce to go through in those days? If anyone has any ideas on that please let me know.

Hi, a couple of questions. Does anyone know how long it took to obtain a divorce in the 1930s please?
The other question, is where can I look for a record to see if someone was divorced? I  have looked on Ancestry and even though it says Marriage and Divorce for the section of results, they are all for marriages.

Hope someone can help.

Tyrone / Re: Stewart family from Co Tyrone
« on: Sunday 11 January 09 17:24 GMT (UK)  »
Many thanks for that!

I am not sure how to go about getting hold of Irish records or what they contain.  Of course I realise John Stewart is a common name - there is a possibility he may have moved to Northern Ireland from Scotland but I may not be able to prove that.

Does your record of the marriage to Jane, give any other details or please could you advise me where to go to find them out?

Thanks alot for your help.

Tyrone / Stewart family from Co Tyrone

I am seeking any information on John and Jane Stewart (husband and wife) who moved from Co Tyrone to Co Durham in the mid 1800s.  John was born in Tyrone in 1811.

Not sure how to go about finding any more information.

Durham / Sarah Ann Stewart, West Auckland/Shildon
« on: Saturday 10 January 09 17:06 GMT (UK)  »
I am seeking anyone who has any information on the above named, who was probably part of the Stewart family who came over from Ireland, her father was John Stewart and her mother was Jane.  I think John was born in Co Tyrone in about 1811.

Sarah died in 1883 when she was about 28 - her husband was Isaac Stephenson whom she married after her first son, Robert was born.  Robert kept the Stewart name as he was illegitimate.

If anyone is descended from this Irish family of Stewarts (Sarah had several brothers) and reads this please can you get in touch?

Thanks

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / Re: Broome Park Mansion, & Ravenleigh, Betchworth
« on: Saturday 10 January 09 17:00 GMT (UK)  »
Hi.

I am trying to find out a bit of history on these two houses, would like to know if they are still standing, and if they are the original homes.

My great-grandfather appears to have lived in the Lodge of Broome Park Mansion, in 1901 census, when it was owned by  Gen. Feilding.  His wife worked as a dom serv at Ravenleigh, before they got married.

Any info would be much appreciated.

Hi DaisyLoo

If you are looking for images of Broome Park, there is a vintage postcard from 1908, listed on Ebay at the moment; it is item no.  110336237581  or you can probably find it by typing in Betchworth Broome Park into the search box.

Good luck with your research!
