Hi Frithy,
I have two George Hills on my tree one born 1791 and was an Inn keeper and Miner , he was married to Hannah. The second ,his son George born c1818. Both are registered as Chapel en le Frith but the area they came from was Peak forest.
I don't know if his son married as I  have only concentrated on my direct line.
I have a tree on Genes Reunited, if you have access to the site  you will be able to view it. Let me know.

The Common Room / A VERY BIG THANKYOU
« on: Friday 20 February 09 19:59 GMT (UK)  »
One of the postings in the Comman Room is "do you think Roots Chat will be of any help to you"?
well my story is ,I submitted a posting on the Derbyshire and also the Cheshire page, asking for any information regarding  my family name Hill and also I requested information about the area, Newspapers etc . I had replies very quickly to the area request but nothing much about my Hill family.
Then lo and behold I received a reply  from someone who it turns out is actually a  cousin I had lost contact with 50 years ago.
She had not actually visited the Root Chat site , but had entered a name on google and it brought up my posting.
So the answer to the question is a very big YES
So a very BIG THANKYOU goes to Roots chat and all its members from a very happy lady.
PS, my cousin is now a member

Matsmam.

The Lighter Side / WDYTYA

I would imagine quite a few of us have just finished watching Rory Bremner in WDYTYA.
How lucky is he to have all that information at his fingertips? Completed family tree, letters and photographs, but seeming not to know it was there.
Once again it  should remind us  to pick the brains of all our family etc
As I am not as lucky as he,  its back to the hard grind we all enjoy so much.
Looking forward to next weeks episode.
Happy searching

Cheshire Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Help with local newspapers
« on: Saturday 31 January 09 20:56 GMT (UK)  »
Hi to Lizzie and Reiver,
just to let you know I contacted the Trafford Local Centre as you suggested and I have just received a reply today.
They have found an article relating to the accident  in which my father died. it was printed in The Altrincham, Bowdon & Hale Guardian.
They are sending me a copy.
Without your help and the help of this wonderful website I may never have found it.
Thanks go to all of you who help out there.

Hi, thankyou for looking at my post.
I have research on my Hill family going back to 1791.
There were two Georges, one born 1791 and the other his son 1818, both born in the Peak forest, and both Innkeepers.
I have only really concentrated on my direct line, and not all of the family . The only Mary I have was my grandfathers sister born 1884.
I would make a bet though that your line will be connected somehow.

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Re: HELP needed
« on: Tuesday 20 January 09 22:09 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Sue & Suz,
Thanks for you replies.
To date I have searched every census but come up with nothing other than the 1881 which I know to be correct, or the 1841 which has a soundex of Whittington, but having the same occupation and was registered in Birmingham which the Thomas Whittington's (1881 census) children where born, although place of birth on that one reads " outside census county" .
I will try and follow the birth that you have sent Sue and see where that takes me . Wish me luck.

PS: Suz ,what is IGI and where do I find it ?
