Derry (Londonderry) / Patton or Vincents from Newtownlimavady
« on: Monday 02 January 12 22:36 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to further my search for Pattons or Vincents who lived in Limavady or Largy in the early to mid 1800's. My second and third great Grandfathers (John and Thomas Patton) lived there for a time and John Patton married an Ann or Nancy Vincent. Her father was Thomas Vincent who married an Elizabeth Lindsay. Do any of these names ring a bell? Any help would be appreciated.

There certainly appears to be a connection here!! I have been struggling to get past my GGrandfathers (Thomas Patton) generation, and wondered why he used the forename Vincent for one of his sons, and for a middle name of one of his daughters. I had guessed it was a maiden name, but could never find a "google" connection. About a week ago, a helping hand in NI handed me the connection, and a two year stall in my research was moved forward. I have no information unfortunately on Nancy (Ann) and very limited information on John Patton, but of course have lots of stuff going forward from there. Nancy would be my 2X Great Grandmother. I would love to share information as I have been working on a book myself for about 7 years now and am always anxious to update its content. And I agree it seems more difficult to trace things from here (Canada). Please let me know if we can exchange information.

Was wondering if anyone has responded to your request for information on Vincents. I recently was made aware that a possible link to a Nancy (Ann) Vincent of this location might be a part of my "tree". She married a John Patton in 1853 at Tamlaght Finlagan and lived in Terrydrum. Her father was Thomas Vincent a "wheelwright" Does anyone see a connection to their tree. Thanks, Gord

Hello, I have just discovered this chat page and am very interested.
My g g gradmother was Mary Thompson, born 1831, Tamlaght Finlagan. She married James Vincent, born Londonderry, in 1850 at Tamlaght Finlagan.
Marys father was William Thompson. I wonder if Mary is a sister to Robert Thompson that much of the discussion is about?
I would be grateful if any one can help with information about the Vincent family.
James and Mary's three oldest children immigrated to Australia, with Thomas eventually settling in New Zealand where I live.
We are holding a Vincent family reunion in Feb 2012 and would love some background of the family in Ireland.
Thomas and his sister Hadassah were both christened in the parish church at Tamlaght Finlagan.
Regards,
Robyn

HI JMP, Not sure what info you still require. Most of what I have has been documented on this site, but let me know what you need or send me a note and I will see what I can do. I would be interested in confirming if you have gone back beyond William Wickens and Sarah?? or James Barlow and Mary Aikens?

Down / William Moore Esther Patton
« on: Saturday 26 June 10 17:26 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to locate information on a William Moore who married Esther Patton in 1919. Married in Fisherwick Presbyterian Church, lived in Belfast. At one time Esther lived at 54 Bristow Park (1966) where she died a widow. May have had children, June Merrifield Moore, Esther Joan, and William Arthur. Any help with this family would be appreciated.

I am looking for information on a Joel Wickens who married a Dinah Barlow in 1805 in Tadley parish, Hampshire. At some point they moved to Canada, but I have a picture of the Home in Sherbourne St. John Hampshire that is said to be from 1823. Can anyone shed more light on this family??

thanks,

Berkshire Lookup Requests / Wickens Brimpton Berkshire
« on: Tuesday 27 October 09 22:24 GMT (UK)  »
This might be a longshot but.... I am trying to find information on a Wickens family who are said to be from Brimpton Berksire originally. Here is what I believe is correct: William Wickens b/abt. 1748, married a Sarah b/abt 1750. I do not have a maiden name for this Sarah?? They appear to have had a large family, 11 children in all. William would be my 5th GGrandfather. Children were: John, Mary, James, Richard, sarah, Joseph, Joel, Luke, Mark, Elizabeth, and Thomas. the last two may have been twins, with Thomas dead as an infant. Joel my 4th GGrandfather married Dinah Barlow in 1805 Tadley Parish, Hampshire England, so I am not sure where the Barlow family was prior to 1805. Can anyone help identify the Sarah who married William? Also looking for death dates and possible burial locations. Thanks,  Gord

Ireland / Re: Eugene or Owen - Are they interchangeable
« on: Tuesday 27 October 09 21:51 GMT (UK)  »
Have found that in each certificate that I have for an Owen or Eugene from Ireland that the name is constantly interchangeable. This has particularly happened in my family when both  the father and son were called Owen.
Thanks Jericho, in my family I have at least three generations of Owens/Eugenes, who kept naming the first male son, and in one case a daughter (Eugena), Owen, then switching to Eugene after a few years. it seemed very confusing.

Thanks

Quite common in Ireland to use both Eugene and Owen. Scroll down to Eoghan in this list-

Thanks, for the information! this clears up a number of nagging questions.
