The Common Room / Re: Peter Calver of Lost Cousins

Sad news, I haven't had the email with the news of Peter passing away but I did read the December newsletter.

I found his newsletters really helpful and interesting, his love of genealogy came across so
well and although I had only spoken to him a couple of times online over the years it's still a shock.

RIP Peter.

I've said this so often to so many people both online and face to face. The companies ask you all sorts of questions often with dubious possibilities, about whether you really want to cancel. Until you go all the way through and reach a screen that confirms that you have cancelled and received an email confirming that, there is a good chance that you haven't cancelled.

You're so right Zaph., I think I had a senior moment and lost concentration  ::) :)  I will make sure the auto renew is off if I decide to rejoin inthe future  :)

Thank you so much Biggles50, glad I'm not the only one  :) I did have a note in my dairy but as you say it's not straightforward and I mucked it up. It's so wrong that it doesn't just cancel when you press cancel and that the auto renew is on by default rather than off.

Thank you Tickettyboo and bikermickau, and that is reassuring. I'll check out the terms and conditions link and give them a phone later  :)

I thought I had cancelled my Ancestry yearly subscription on Monday, however today I received a message from PayPal saying the money had been taken from my account. It looks like I made a mistake and didn't go through the whole process. Also I didn't realise I could have changed the settings to stop automatic renewal. I am going to phone them later to see if I can get a refund, I'm not very hopeful, I would appreciate any advice about this 😊
