Many thanks for remembering me. What makes it more disappointing for me is that these streets were almost certainly still in existence when I was a Bristol Police Cadet based in Bedminster in the early 60s - as were the roads where the supermarket now stands. I vividly recall a conversation with an elderly lady at her gate in one of those roads. She had never ever crossed the water into Recliffe - never needed to. She thought it was great to see a policeman (I wasn't really) out on foot. There you go; same story nearly 50 years ago - not enough of them on the beat.
Thanks again and Merry Christmas to all our readers.

My father was born at 9 Ainslie Street, Bedminster, Bristol, in 1910. I can't locate it but believe it was off Stracey Street, which I cannot locate either. My guess is that both roads have disappeared under a supermarket or new road system. Can anyone help?

Since posting this I found a copy of a 1925 map in one of my Reece Winstone books of old Bristol photographs. It shows Ainslie Street at the northern end of Raleigh Road, Bedminster, Bristol. Thanks to anyone who tried to locate it for me. I guess it has still disappeared though.
