Wiltshire Lookup Requests / Obituary Lookup Requests (Swindon)
« on: Wednesday 09 March 11 21:41 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I was hoping someone may be able to look to see if there are obituaries for 3 of my forebears who lived and died in Swindon, they are as follows:

Sidney Smith died 19/5/1902 @138 Clifton St Swindon aged 21
Charles Gess Smith died 19/1/1918 @ 5 Brunel St Swindon aged 70
Mary Anne Smith died between oct and dec 1900 @ 138 Clifton St Swindon aged 52

I would be grateful for any help with these people

Many thanks
Dave

I Know I shouldn't reply to my own posts but I had problems uploading the photo mentioned so I am trying again with this post.

Cheers

Northamptonshire / William & Elizabeth York 1904 Lookup
« on: Thursday 16 September 10 15:52 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I have a family group photograph which I originally thought was a John Rose's family, but I and others in my extended family have been unable to name the people on the photo, which has been dated to between 1900 and 1910.

However, I have been given more information which now leads me to believe the picture in question may be William & Elizabeth York of Harleston on the occasion of their 40th wedding anniversary. I think that the others on the photograph are their children.

I know that William and Elilzabeth married between Oct and Dec 1864, so I would be grateful if someone could possibly look through the local paper(s) that cover Harlestone for the period Oct to Dec 1904 to see if there is an article and hopefully the same picture that I have or a least a picture of William and Elizabeth.

Can anyone help please?

Many thanks
Dave

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / Names on Allenton war memorial
« on: Sunday 01 August 10 21:07 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I posted earlier trying to identify a particular war memorial, I am now fairly certain it is Allenton in Derbyshire.

Can anyone help locate a list of names of those men who are remembered on this memorial.

Many thanks
Dave

Hi

Many thanks for that, it does indeed appear to be the same memorial, do you have any idea where I could get a list of names that appear on it?

Many thanks
Dave

Hi

I have now received a scan of the photograph of my cousins grandfather standing beside a war memorial in Derbyshire, I now know it is not the Midland Railway memorial in Midland St Derby.

Can anybody identify this memorial for me, it is in Derbyshire apparently. I'm sorry the quality and sixe of the scan isn't the best but it is from a very small 1960's photograph.

Many thanks
Dave

Hi

I now understand that the war memorial in question is in Midland St Derby outside the Midland Railway station. I would be grateful if anyone help with the names on this memorial and my cousin in Canada is certain the names are Rose.

Many thanks
Dave

Hi Evie

Thanks for replying, unfortunately the photograph is not available at the moment, and locating this memorial is part of a bigger query that we have.
My cousins Grandfather (Arthur Rose) came from Sawley in Derbyshire, but we can find nothing about his paternal grandparents or aunts and uncles. We have a photograph of the family but nobody can identify the sitters except Arthurs father Henry Rose.
We are unable to find Henry on any census pre 1881, and on his marriage certificate (1879) his age is given as 24. Correlating the ages and census birth place (West Bromwich) we can't find a birth record or what we believe is the correct family, so we are trying to attack the problem from a different angle.

I have loked at the site you mentioned, I couldn't find any memorial with what appears to be more than two brothers on.

Many thanks
Dave
