Essex Lookup Requests / Re: Wade in parish registers
« on: Monday 06 December 21 17:42 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I know this post is old. But I’ve only just been given my family tree and came across this chat my g grandmother was Ada Rosetta Morley George golden radley Wade was my ggg grandfather kind regards meme

Hello Meme, Very good to get a reply after all those years, I guess we are related through our great grandfather John Radley 1769-1841 and Lucy Alliss 1780-1842 his wife. Since the early messages I posted I have managed to progress with the tree to such an extent that I am now back to the Domesday Book with the finding of the location that led to the name Radley being formed in Essex (very different to Radley's of other areas in the UK) How far have you got with their daughter Lucy marrying William Wade?
To be honest my research is done in a different way to many genealogists, I only follow the male line and so my research has only traced the Radley name, it is partly a one name study which has come into its own once you get past the 1500's when parish registers stop. Beyond this period what I call forensic genealogy takes over and only by gathering info on all Radley's in Essex and analysing location, very old documents, land transactions and so much more that the family line can be traced back.

If you need any help or are stuck on taking the tree back beyond John and Lucy (Alliss) let me know and I can probably help you out. I don't have a tree that can be sent as it started with Windows 95 and has been copied many times over the years onto new operating systems that are now incompatible with the newer pc's. Chris

Hi, I have just got a 1703 document for Malcalf that may be connected to yours. It is for moeity of a half of 2 bayes of buildings used as a barn at Malcaffe in the parish of Chappel en le Frith, also for parts of closes of land called Great Marshfield, Little Marshfield. The people concerened are John Fryth, Samuel his son, William Oldfield & William Walker all of Peake Forest, Derbyshire. I have looked on Google and there is a farm called Malcoff Farm and a peak called Malcoff nearby. The location appears to be as Ray T states, to be precise it is on the road from Slackhall, north north west and on the bend at the top of the road. The barn is probably the same one as in my document. Chris

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: 1851 and 1861 Lookup Please - RUDDELL
« on: Thursday 30 September 10 23:36 BST (UK)  »
Hi again, I forgot to put forward the suggestion that the possible reason why we cannot find records before 1799 is that they may have come over from Ireland, if anyone knows of how to trace Irish records from this time I would like to hear about any source to try.

Hi there, I have just started my wifes family tree and have found your posting about Daniel Ruddell.
I have traced her line all the way back and came to Daniel. This is what I have starting with the earliest (this is the same as your findings, how do you fit in the family tree ? are you still a Ruddell or has your name changed over the years by marriages ? )

Daniel Ruddell b1799 d1867 Stepney (died as Ruddle) marr.1821 to Catherine Adam at St Dunstan in Stepney.

Child - Daniel Ruddell b1823 Hackney, d1903 Hackney, marr. 1845 to Ellen Coggin (aka Helen Coggan) she was born in Poplar in 1826 according to the marriage record but was actually born in 1830. In 1881 census she is Eliza (Ellen Elizabeth),she died in 1887 in Hackney age 57. Daniel was a farm labourer at 27 and bricklayer at 58. They lived at Cottage in Hilly Field,Homerton,Hackney in 1851 with their first 2 children James and Rebecca -  Victoria Street,Hackney in 1861 - 5 Prince Edward Road,Hackney in 1871 with his children and 2 grandchildren - 23 Prince Edward Road,Hackney in 1881 with his grandson George from Daniel b1855 - In 1891 he appears to be in the Pancras area - In 1901 in Hackney where he dies in 1903.
Children - James b1847, Rebecca b1849, Daniel b1855, George William b1856 and Martha Ann b1859 all in Hackney.
My wifes line comes down from Daniel b1855 Hackney, d1912 Hackney marr.Margaret Murphy then through their son George William Ruddell/Ruddle b1877 marr Rebecca Stile in 1898 in Poplar and through their child Isabel Patricia Ruddle b1905 in Hackney. Please let me know if you are connected in anyway.Chris

Essex Lookup Requests / Re: Wade in parish registers

Hi Scobie , a great bit of research, I havn't got John's birthdate, I had estimated 1800 so was very close, Jessie and Charlotte are new to me,thanks for those as somebody else is looking for Charlotte Radley details so that helps them.
The one I am really looking for now is John Radley born in Orsett about 1713 - 1725.  I have his sisters Susannah b1713 and Marie b1714,married 1749 both born Orsett, the parents are John and Mary who married in 1713 Orsett and he or the  missing son John was a church warden at Orsett in 1756 for one year only. The earlier John had a brother Robert who married Sara Murrel in 1719 at Widford, I have their line up to 1764. I think the difficulty in finding John is because the parish records are badly damaged for those years, perhaps I will find a later link next time I go to the ERO.

Regards, Chris

Hi Scobie,  I can understand now, its obvious when you add the Wade surname, I was reading your original posting and just saw the name Radley and assumed it was the surname.
The info I can give at present is as follows:
John Radley b1780, d 1841 Orsett (although I have been told by another source 1846)
In 1841 he was an agric.labourer in Orsett.
Married to Lucy b1780,d1842.

Children were:
1. Lucy b1803 Orsett
marr.  to your William Wade (see posting).
2. William Robert b1813 Orsett,d1880 Orsett
marr. to Mary b1816 Orsett
1841 census,an agric.lab at Orsett ,2 children Robert b1837,William b1839
1871 census,an agric.lab at Orsett, 2 more children Henry b1858, Elizabeth b1855.
There are other children but this is part of ongoing research, I have the details but they need claryfying. This all leads onto my self in the chain.

Prior to John b1769 I have 3 possible connections from Orsett/Brentwood areas but they are proving hard to make the right link, I shall be having a look at the parish records at ERO soon and may find something,I will post anything I find out.Regards Chris

Hi Scobie, I am searching the Radley's from Orsett and can possibly help you. The Lucy bc1805 is I believe Lucy Radley b1803 the parents are John Radley b1769 at Orsett and Lucy Radley b1780. If this is the same Lucy then I cannot see why they would name a child George Golden Radley in 1836,the family is very mixed so who knows ! Do you have documented proof that he was her son ? I would like to know so that I can enter it in my records.
Incidentally another Wade, John was in partnership in 1821 with Mary Radley as a blacksmith in Ilford, there might be another lead to follow up.Regards Chris
