Hiya, I know what you mean about not checking the facts thorough enough as I've made errors that way too,
I knew about Anguish and his lock up time...(i think it was maybe petty thieving as in rabbits off the squires estate, to feed his family) if so you can't knock the man for that!

I too think that Anguish and Tobias Lake were related, as why would a soldier born Gibraltar? with an Irish wife and children settle in Docking Norfolk??? Tobias must have had family connections in the area, and also the fornames Anguish and Tobias are a bit odd!

Its been quite a while since I last did some digging around on the Lake family, I,ll have another go and see if I can find anything new, I'll let you know my findings.

regards Pam

Hi, only just read your posting, yes i would very much like to know what information you have of Tobias Lake descendants.... I too am related thro his daughter Mary born abt 1833 (Galt in Belfast), she married Samuel Melton in Docking.

I discovered Tobias served in the 64th regiment thro his daughter Sarah's baptism record in Ireland, (I'm still searching for Mary's baptism and her sister Jane's and also Tobias's marriage to Jane Carroll from county Clare.

regards Pam

Thanks guys for your time and suggestions, its very much appreciated  :) I'll get started on searching the IGI parish records around Gibraltar point...

Incidentally do you know of a honest/reliable researcher who would know his way round the army muster rolls from the National archives??....
as I know Tobias Lake was serving in the 64th regiment of foot in Ireland between 1827 and 1835,

kind regards pamal

my 3x greatgrand father Tobias Lake has stated in all census returns from Docking in Norfolk and is on the IGI that he was born abt 1800 in Gibraltar... After 4 years of searching and paying out ££££££S for professional searches for his birth in the areas of Spain and Portugal nothing has been found...
I'm thinking now has this man misled the family with the word Gibraltar....!!!! In the late 1820's he's married an Irish girl from County Clare and is serving in Ireland with the 64th regiment of foot... then in 1838 he's in Docking, Norfolk!!!!!!
I now have thoughts that could this man have been born at Gibraltar Point on the Wash lincolnshire....! or am i about to waste more time and money.... PLEASE fellow researchers I'm in need of any help or advice... with regards to all Pamal
