Hi Ian,  sorry to ask a silly question.  But, what is Market Place--town, church, county?  I can't find anything about it.......Buckeye

Thank you Ian for checking this.  It would appear that these are my correct Pinnigers.  Before becoming a farmer in the US, he was listed as a barber.  His wife Sarah probably died from complications of childbirth.  I was not aware of this child, Joseph.  Thank you again.

Renfrewshire / Mary Barr
« on: Monday 05 January 09 23:18 GMT (UK)  »
Hi !  I am looking for info. about Mary Barr born in 1795.  I'm not sure about her parents, but have been told that they were John  Barr and Margaret Weir.  Mary married Thomas Meikle in 1817 in Lesmahagow, and they came to the US in 1845. Family history says that her parents disowned her because of her marriage, but I don't know that for a fact.  Does anyone have Mary Barr Meikle in their family tree?

Thank you.

Hi Barbara,
Thank you for your help.  One more question: Where do I write to get the marriage certificate?  Would birth certificates  or baptismal certificates be at the same place?  I have never sent for anything in the UK before.  Thank you for your help on this New Year's Eve.

Thank you for you responses.  My source for for James Pinniger's  birth is unknown, but his death date comes from his headstone which says "Died March 13, 1870, aged 52 years".  The only other info that I have comes from a biography written about local pioneers.  It says that he brought 3 children to the US in 1852:  James, (my g-grandfather), Sarah Ann, and Mary, after their mother, Sarah A. Martin, died in 1850. It also says that he was a barber.  This biography may not be perfectly accurate, but it is all that I have had to go on.  I would like to correct any mistakes.  I do know that his son James was born Dec. 29, 1843 in England and died Nov. 8, 1923 in Ohio.

The info from the previous message looks to be the correct James.  Thank you again for your responses.   :)

Hi Daisy Loo,

I don't have an answer about the meaning of Pinniger, but I am also looking for info about the Pinniger family.  My g-g-grandfather, James Pinniger, came to the US in July 1852.  Family history states that he came from Berkshire, England.  He was married to Sarah Martin who died in 1850.  He came to the US with his 3 children and remarried Ann Deacon in 1853, who was also from England.  Any connections to your Pinnigers?

I would greatly appreciate any correspondence....buckeye
