Hi not sure if you have worked out the family tree yet.

I have just logged back in to see if any updates.  I am confused by the newspaper article that has his William George Wyburn survived (at the time 1950) a wife, a daughter Mrs Herbert Bow and a grandaughter.

I was unaware that my great Aunt Margaret Wyborn (nee Dyker) may have divorced - as she died in 1974.

If you are still tracing this can you let me know what you have discovered.

I am in Vancouver in August and while there plan to visit the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club and also the Mountain View Cemetery to see if there are more clues.

Also heading for Huntly in Aberdeenshire to visit the graves of my maternal great grandparents Isabella McLaren and Charles Dyker.

Regards
Anita.

Hi all those interested in Mr William George Wyborn, Vancouver.

Trawling through my mother's letters and postcards and found another reference to her Uncle.

As we know my maternal great aunt, Margaret Dyker, married Mr William George Wyborn.  What I have found it a newspaper clipping entitled: "Rites Set for City 'Skipper'"

I would be happy to fax it from Australia to Wyborn relatives.  Just need yr fax.

Briefly, the article relates to an obituary placed in the newspaper around 8 April 1950.

"... A veteran skipper of Vancouver's waterfront, William George Wyborn, 64, will be buried in Mountain View Cemetery, Wednesday, after 1pm services in Mount Pleasant Funeral Chapel. He died Saturday aboard on e of his much-loved boates, the Norsal, anchored at Royal Vancouver Yacht Club.

The article briefly highlights his life skippering boats out of Vancouver. Born in Sandwick Kent in 1885 came to Vancouver in 1908 and joined Union Steamships until 1910 when he became caretaker of Royal Vancouver Yacht Club. He was in the RCAF stationed at Toronto in WW1.

At his death he was taking care of the Norsal for the Dewees' estate. Surviving are his wife at home, 356 East Twenty-fourth, a daughter, Mrs Herbert Bow and one granddaughter.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks Ian
Yes I would appreciate the certificates emailed or faxed if that's easier.  I have Elizabeth and Elsie's certificates as I had to initially prove UK grandparent status to work in the UK in the 80's. If you don't have those two I will email to you.

Also I think that the poem may have been for the birth of Agnes - was she born April or August.

Ian, George's sister Elsie Bryndon Dyker (my grandmother) b 22 March 1882 penned a poem "To a New Baby" the last lines in the poem:

Little squirming cuddling thing
Ere you shed each angel wing
Did they tell you you were sent
With a cargo of content
to a home down here below
Where they hungered for you so
Do you know you flawless pearl
How we love our baby girl

Poem was dated April 22 1906

Well my records indicate that it is correct that Charles and Isabella had George born 30 April 1886 in Glass.  So therefore George born in 1878 must belong somewhere else.

This is becoming an obsession. I will have to take time to work through it all.

Dear Ian

Thanks for bringing George to life in the family tree.  Did they remain living in Scotland?  Are you able to tell me details of their offspring and birth and death dates and if there are any of George and Mary (McIntosh)Dyker's descendants still living and if so where.

Do you have any photos?

Lastly, any chance you have evidence of George's brothers Alexander and William ever marrying?

Kind regards
AGMacD
