Thanks for looking Carole.

It's a bit of mystery why we can't find a record.

Dorset Lookup Requests / Bridport marriage - George Harvey
« on: Monday 20 February 12 22:50 GMT (UK)  »
Evening all,

We are looking for the maiden name of Elizabeth who married George Harvey in or around Bridport. They were both born in 1829, George in Bridport and Elizabeth in Bradpole.

We think that the record below may be correct for George but strangely he is the only name on the record.

Surname First name(s) District Vol Page
Marriages Dec 1851
Harvey George         Bridport   8   86

They had my wife’s GGD in 1862 so presumably where married before then.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Help! We know my great uncle died in a farm accident but cant work out from the death certificate entry what it is he fell from. If it helps he was born and bred in dorset so it may be a local term for some sort of farm equipment?

Thanks!

Glamorganshire Lookup Requests / Re: Davies lookup please
« on: Saturday 13 December 08 17:08 GMT (UK)  »
Many thanks for the responses.

It is possible it was Herbert T rather than Herbert J. As I said all I have to go on is my parents wedding certificate which is the original hand written document.

He was a train driver who was transfered to Taunton from Cardiff during the war. He died sometime late 60's or early 70's. Sorry to be so vague but he was rather estranged from the family and there is noone left to ask for more details.

Hopefully his brother the Rev David will be a little easier to track down and provide me with info that way.

Thanks, Steve

Hello all,

I would love some help tapping in to my Davies ancestry.

My mother was Shelia Joyce Davies born in Splott, Cardiff on 16/2/1933 and died 22/2/1992 in Taunton Somerset.

Her father was Herbert J Davies and her mother was Kathleen Rayson.

Herbert J Davies was a brother of the Rev David Davies famed for his missionary work in China back in the 1930's. I have come across an article on the web saying that David Davies was born in 1900 in Morganstown and his parents were called Enoch and Emma. I believe in total there were six brothers and three sisters.

Other than that I have no hard facts to go on and with so many David and Hebert Davies around I am struggling to tie them done. I only meet my grandfather a couple of times when I was around 8 years old some 40 years ago and other than my parents marriage certificate I don't have any family papers to help.

Any info most gratfully received.

Nicola,

I am just starting to delve into my past and was amazed to come across your post. I am the great, great, grandson of Eli Pike through Eli jnr, his son Harold and his son, my father Eric.

As far as my dad knew we had always been a Taunton family but it looks like we have Devon ancestry.

I wonder if you any names and dates proir to Eli you could share.

Best Regards & thanks for gettig my search off to great start.

Steve

Please could someone help in finding the spouse of Eli Pike. I think she was Mary Jane.......? Would also like to know if Eli is the brother of Harry Pike c1861, ag lab, Devon Upottery. Harry married Mary Northam and on the 1891 census lived at 3 town Cottage, Luppitt.

Regards

Technical Help / Taunton, Somerset not in Family Tree Maker?
« on: Friday 05 December 08 19:22 GMT (UK)  »
Hello all,

We have just started using WDYTYA Family Tree Maker and it seems that the town of Taunton, Somerset is not listed as a valid place.

All it seems to have is the various Tauntons in the USA. We have registered with Ancestry.co.uk and tried to resolve the name without success. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Best Regards, Steve Pike
