Hi Russ,

yes I have contacted Ian. He was very helpful. Anyway, I'm still here in Sheffield. Wouldn't be anywhere else to be frank, and I have a son to carry forward the Parkin name. Please keep in touch if anything new comes to light or contact me through the email function on this site to get my details.

Kind regards

Neil

Hi Russell, and hello cousin!

Yes I have seen the photo, although I think it may be a bit later than that. I also have a copy of his father's (John Parkin the Elder) will that makes fascinating reading. My line is through George, then John Thomas, Colin, Owen to me, and I retain the Parkin name.

I'd be happy to share what I know with you. I am trying to find time to get to the bottom of George and his fathers business and property ownership and what happened to other members of the family. In particular I am trying to find out who was Parkin Loy, a nephew of George's who lived with him in Oughtibridge.

Anyway, please feel free to get in touch and I'll gladly share my research.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: Stockport Burial 1930's

Hello Frithy!

John William abandoned his family (wife and 13 surviving children) in the mid 1920's supposedly with a mistress. We found he lived for the last few years of his life and then died in 130 Wellington Rd North in 1933, a boarding house.  We subsequently have discovered that he married the owner, one Ellen Taylor, believed to come from Runcorn.  They were married one month before John William died from cancer, so he must have known his time was up, and made an honest woman of her (a spinster at 65!).

Anyway, we expected that he would have been buried in Stockport, but no.  We have discovered that his body was brought back to Sheffield and buried in the family plot along with two of their children who died in infancy and his first wife Annie. Annie had died by commiting suicide in 1930. (sad story).

Anyway, his resting place is in Sheffield in the family plot which we have now located and a bunch of the cousins are heading there this weekend for the first time to do a bit of maintenance and pay our respects.

What was your interest by the way?

Neil

Just a quick follow-up...Since you were able to help me on these key points, and the incedibly knowledgable John Kay at Ringmer, we have been able to determine Sarah Ann's lineage back to 1675 and add a lot of detail about her parents, and also about her life.

Around the same time as you posted, I was able to contact a very distant relative who has a photo of her and her youngest daughter Matilda taken in Brighton around 1900.  To go from a name and nothing else,  to having a rich history and photo's too in a couple of months is fantastic. Thanks to all who helped.

Hello Hugh,

Would you be able to direct me to the grave site?

Hello Hugh!

You've played an absolute blinder.  We had no idea where the family was buried, but it looks like they were mostly there.  Nice that Annie and John W ended up buried together.

Am I right in thinking that this is the one opposite what I'd know as the paddling pools in Rivelin Valley Park?

Kind regards

Neil

Hi all,

I'm trying to discover the final resting place of my g.Grandfather John William Packham who died in 1933 in Stockport.  Would anyone know where to look?

Cheers in advance
