Hi hiatt219,
Thanks for your offer. I have that photo. If you don't know all the names I can help.
Have been trying to contact you by email, seems your address has changed.  Mine still the same.

Hi kelsey64
I don't know what contact there was between Martha and Henry but I knew Thomas and his wife Ann had been to Ireland.  I thought it was once, as nothing has been passed down about the Dublin people.  Ann's grandparents were born in Ireland, I don't know about her parents, but her family would have been a further reason for contact.
Just at the end of the war an older man and somewhat younger woman (don't know their relationship) from Ireland visited the families in Leicester, I do not know their names though.  I have in the past tried to find contacts in Ireland but couldn't get any.  Not knowing any names even was a drawback.  So I'm pleased to have the contact now.

Hi kelsey64
Thanks for the info.  I have never been able to find any children of Henry(b1829) apart from my family: Henry(b1853) and just that James was b in 1866.
Would you like info from me and if so how should I send it?

Hi Kelsey64
That's the one.
They emigrated about 1879.  The son James died before then in 1878.  Henry's wife was Sarah Bentley (no Gowan), she was born in England.  They had 4 more children in England. My grandmother was their daughter Sarah.

Hi Kelsey64
My gtgtgrandfather was Henry, b 1829, his son Henry (my gtgrandfather) b 1853 m 1873 emigrated to UK in 1879.
The only sibling I have of Henry (b1853) is James b 1866, are you related to him or some other sibling?

Many thanks for your suggestion.  The FBIS give a transcription of the medal roll which shows his entry.  Unfortunately they do not include the regimental number.  Will need to look elsewhere.

Hello Leofric
Thanks for your interest. You are correct about the 61st History, that is where I found my John Gardiner. Because I cannot find any record of his death or his daughter's birth, I concluded they were Roman Catholics and registered seperately and these (India) records are unavailable. I cannot find in any indexed army record. I think his wife predeceased him as I have a personal record 1857 onwards which would have mentioned her otherwise.  The English death index, tried at your suggestion was no help but he may not have English connections.  Thanks all the same.

Thanks for message Shane.  From there I do have a record that John Gardiner married in 1842 (a County Cork record but the marriage was at Buttevant RC Church).  The problem is I have nothing to say whether this is the right man or not.  All I know is that he joined the 61st Regiment, and went to India and died there in 1857. No other names, dates or places.
