Hi Birchwod,
Am I correct in assuming that all burial remains prior to 1846 at St. Mary are still in the church grounds?   On my short visit it was terrible weather so did not manage to see Staveley Lodge, I have a picture of it, my other research was trying to find any info on my Gt Gt grandfather John Law who was a solicitor, Clerk to The Magistrates and Surveyor of Taxes in Melton, I went to the Library and Museum, they were so very helpful, but no info, I was trying to trace his origins, the England Law Society does not record his name, I contacted the Scottish Law Society, all their records prior to 1880 were destroyed in a fire, my mother said we had Scottish ancestry, I have done all branches of my family tree, none are Scottish so he appears to be Scottish, you may be interested to know, my Gt Gt uncle was Edward Adcock who in 1831 was reputed to be an originator of the name Melton Mowbray pork pie. I have family connections with Egerton Lodge, Melton Lodge, North Lodge, Sysonby Lodge, Wycliffe House, the Adcock family were Brewers in Melton and Wissendine.
Thank you for your kindness    John

Hi Birchwood, thank you for your past help, I have just had a couple of days in Melton Mowbray and visited St. Mary church, found my 4th Gt grandfathers Tomb Christopher Staveley, the Hickson Pinnacle and several Adcock family Headstones, could you please tell me if the following people were reinterred at the King Street Cemetery:
William Adcock 1706-1786 and wife Mary
William Adcock 1750-1812and wife Bridget
Anna Maria Law 1812-1816 daughter of John and Vertue Law.
John Law died 1828 and wife Vertue.
Are their any other Law family interred at King Street.
I know this is a tall order but would greatly appreciate your help.

Thank you so much Birchwood for setting my mind at rest on clarifying for me the place of rest of Christopher Staveley b. 1726, my 4th Gt Grandfather, also my 3rd Gt Grandfather William Adcock & Elizabeth Staveley. I live near Southport Lancashire, this year I hope to have a holiday at Melton Mowbray and to take some photos of their tombstones, also the Hickson Pinnacle, I have all these names you gave me on my family tree. John Hickson was a Banker at Melton Mowbray, his son Thomas built Staveley House at Nottingham Road.
Once again thank you for your kindness.

I have been informed from a contact in Canada that my Gt Grandfather x 4 Christopher Staveley who died in 1801 is buried at St. Wulfram church, Grantham, Lincolnshire.
Can some kind person check this out for me.
If he is buried there I would make the effort to visit this church.

Thank you Mike for your prompt reply, you have hit the nail on the head with my John Law of Melton Mowbray. I have just received an email from Canada to say Christopher Staveley died 1801 and is buried at St. Wulfram, Grantham, Lincolnshire, I will have to try and check this out.
Christopher was an Architect, Engineer & Sculpter working on churches throughout the area.

Thank you once again

John
