Badge of Chester War Hospital attached

If any museum or collection relating to the hospital would like two of these badges, please contact me and I will be pleased to donate them.

A very old thread, but there was Chester War Hospital, which I believe was started after the Workhouse at Hoole was commandeered.

I have good reason to be interested - My grandfather copped a blighty (shrapnel wound to the thigh) on the Western Front, and being a Manchester lad was taken to the nearest War Hospital to home. He took a shine to a Somerset lass who was nursing there, and a couple of years later married her, and they were together until he died in 1978.

I have my grandmother's enamel badges from the hospital.

Hi Jill,

I happen to have a Wm Webb original oil of a horse dated 1837, Melton Mowbray.

Somerset / Re: 19th c. Stone masons near Yeovil

Thanks for the extra info, I'll pass it on to my cousin!

His ancestors were a family called Brake which seems to have been an unusual surname. Anyone else got any Somerset Brakes in their tree?

Hi Annie,

Came to Rootschat through googling Brake Yeovil! My grandmother was born Brake, I believe from Ilchester, and lived at Stoke Sub Hamdon.

One of the other families I have is Warry also of Stoke Sub Hamdon, and a couple of my great uncle Warry's were stone masons on Ham Hill.

Would be interested to compare notes!
