Marriage 1840 March quarter

William Pott
Elizabeth Pott, Lichfield, 17, 79

perhaps they were cousins/2nd cousins, hence the same surname, and mother-in-law with same surname.

Hope this helps  :)

Dumfriesshire / Mary Ann Mitchell - can you find her death
« on: Sunday 05 March 06 18:34 GMT (UK)  »
According to a Family Tree that has been handed down to me my paternal grandmother, Mary Ann Mitchell, died in 1943.  She was born in 1869 in Brydekirk (to James Mitchell & Margaret Marshall) and had 2 children out of wedlock, one being my father James Mitchell, and he was brought up in Annan by his aunt, Jane Bell, sister of Mary Ann.  I have tried without success to find a record her death - a visit to SGRO was unable to find her death within a year or two either side of 1943.  Nor have I been able to find her on the English records.  Any help would be much appreciated.

Good luck with your searches Patsy.  Something may turn up out of the blue - it often does, when you least expect it.  I'll keep my eyes open as well - I'm intrigued now about the places. Unfortunately some of the enumerators didn't write very clearly and like you say didn't always hear very well  ;)

All the best, Jeanette

Hi Patsy,
Like you I think it starts with a 'G' - see Gloucester a few entries below.  It might be Greentham, but don't know if there is or was such a place  ???

I don't think his wife was born in Staffordshire - it might be Buckinghamshire - the town is even less clear - maybe Offinder, Affinder  :-\

Have you been able to find any of them on the 1861 census where it might give a clearer place of birth for them.  I've have a quick dig on Ancestry but couldn't find anything positive.

Maybe someone else will be able to decipher it for you, it was a poor image.

Good luck ;)
