Kerry / Gerard O'Connor J.P. of Tralee
« on: Saturday 17 June 23 20:10 BST (UK)  »
This obituary appeared in the Kerry Evening Post on Wednesday 9 April 1884, but unfortunately mentions no relatives:

DEATH OF GERARD O'CONNOR. ESQ., J.P. It is with much regret our readers and the public will learn of the demise this morning of Gerard O'Connor, Esq., J.P, at his residence, Denny Street. It was but yesterday that he had completed his 84th  year having been born on 8th April 1800. He took an active part in the Tithe Rent charge agitation in 1842 and even suffered imprisonment, but about 22 years ago he was appointed to the Commission of the Peace for his native county, and until but a short time since discharged his unpaid duties faithfully, efficiently and conscientiously He was much respected in the court—Tralee Petty Sessions—from which he was scarcely ever absent until old age prevented him.

reports that Mount Pleasant was advertised for sale in June 1870.

I wonder if that was when it was bought by the Ronaldson family.

Thos. Dowling Ronaldson of Mount Pleasant married Elizabeth Jane Scott of Ballyvillane in Ballymackey Church on 18 Aug 1891.  They were living in Killowney Little with their two daughters in 1901.

In 1906, the Cox family advertised another house named Mount Pleasant for sale, this one in the townland of Clarefield in County Clare.

By 1911, the Ronaldsons had moved from one Mount Pleasant to the other, possibly attracted by the name.

The Tipperary Mount Pleasant no longer stands (per landedestates.ie), but the Clare Mount Pleasant is still an imposing ruin, with magnificent views over Scattery Island and the Shannon Estuary.

Ireland / Re: Census 1901/1911 - Missing townlands or Streets

A large chunk of the 1901 returns for Clonmel West Urban appear to be missing from the census website.

In 1901, there are only 17 streets etc. in this DED, all bar one from O'Connell on in the alphabet:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Tipperary/Clonmel_West_Urban/

In 1911, there are no less than 56 streets etc. in this DED:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Tipperary/Clonmel_West_Urban/

The family that I am looking for lived in Gladstone Street, which is divided in 1911 between Clonmel West Urban (where I found the Francies/Holland household) and Clonmel East Urban, but only the part in Clonmel East Urban appears in 1901, and I cannot find the Francies/Holland household anywhere else in Ireland in 1901.

There is no mention of Clonmel in John Grenham's list of "What's missing from the 1911 census?" at
https://www.johngrenham.com/browse/missing_1911.php

I think that there may be a small area on the southern edge of Limerick City missing from the 1911 census website.

In 1901, Edmond Barry is with his second wife and children of both of his marriages at
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Limerick/Glentworth/Rathbane/1499764/
His married son from his first marriage James F Barry is at
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Limerick/Dock_Limerick_Urban_No__4/Quinn_Street/1502104/
I cannot find either Barry family in 1911.

James F. Barry subsequently became Mayor of Limerick and his biography by Matthew Potter confirms that "He resided in Janesboro for much of his life."

Janesboro appears to have originally been the name of a house shown on the Ordnance Survey maps on the west side of what is now O'Donoghue Avenue.  This road was originally also the Municipal Boundary or County Borough Boundary.  The road divided the townland of Rathbane North into two parts, the northwest corner apparently within the city limits and the remainder of the townland outside the city limits.

In 1901, "Rathbane" is the only "townland" in Glentworth DED.
The actual townlands of Rathbane North and Rathbane South are in Limerick South DED.

In 1911, Glentworth DED is gone.
The townlands of Rathbane North and Rathbane South are in Limerick South Rural DED.

Is the part of Rathbane North within the city limits (including the two Barry households) missing from the 1911 census website?

Or can anyone else find the Barrys in 1911?

Mayo / Re: Any Ellicotts?
« on: Sunday 29 September 19 23:13 BST (UK)  »
I just came across what appears to be the marriage of the Margarit/Maggie Ellicott in the above census returns, although she signed the marriage certificate "Aggie":
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1927/09097/5290783.pdf

Her husband Patrick McMahon, from Termon West in County Clare, was in the National Army and was one of 16 soldiers killed in the Glen of Imaal tragedy in 1941.

Aggie place this notice in the Irish Independent of Tuesday, September 16, 1947 (front page):
`McMAHON — Sixth Anniversary — In sad
and loving memory of a dearest dad and
loving husband, C./Sgt. Patrick McMahon,
killed at Glen of Imaal, Sept. 16, 1941.
R.I.P. Masses offered. Will those who
think of him to-day a little prayer to
Jesus say. — Inserted by his loving wife and
children.'

I would be interested in learning what became of their three children who appear in the Ireland, Civil Registration Births Index, 1864-1958 as Desmond G (1920's), Madeline M (1930's) and Doris M (1930's).

Gortnagapple and Kilronan are in Inishmore DED in Galway in 1911, but not in 1901.

I suspect that they are missing from the website - I found the family that I am looking for in Kilronan in 1911 and cannot find them anywhere in 1901.
