Hello,
I saw your very kind offer of help with searching the US Censuses. If you could help it would be really great as I can't find out any more without census info.
My Great Uncle Gordon was born in 1904. He left for the USA arriving through Ellis Island in 1921 aged 16. His actual name was Arthur Gordon Trowbridge, known as Gordon, though I have seen him as "A Gordon Trowbridge" and "Arthur G Trowbridge". I have found his Social Security Death details on the LDS site. I also know that he was travelling to his Uncle's house in Ashtabula, Ohio. His uncle was HW REAKES, (Herbert).
From Ancestry.com I can tell that there is only one reference to Arthur Gordon Trowbridge in the 1930 US census - A Gordon Trowbridge. He is living in Portage county (state not visible (presume OHIO). There is only one other Trowbridge in Portage county - Emma L Trowbridge. I am therefore presuming that they are husband and wife.
The information that I can/can't see is as follows US 1930 Census:
Name: A Gordon Trowbridge
Age: 25
Estimated birth year: abt 1905
Birthplace: England
Relation to head-of-house: Head
Race: White
Home in 1930: Rootstown, Portage, Ohio
Occupation: .
Education: .
Military service: .
Rent/home value: .
Age at first marriage: .
Parents' birthplace: .
Owned a radio: .
Image source: Year: 1930; Census Place: Rootstown, Portage, Ohio; Roll: 1862; Page: ; Enumeration District: 29; Image: 405.0.
I am really keen to see who else is in the household as, as far as we know he had no natural children but did adopt a boy that he called Sunny.
I found his uncle HW Reakes also on a ship manifest arriving in 1892 listed as 'resident'. He was born about 1875. I believe he died 30 July 1930. I also know that his brother Ralph Arnold Reakes (known as either Ralph or Arnold) left f North Wootton , Somerset, England for Ohio in 1896. I believe he lived until 1956. I think he was in Trumbull Ohio in 1910
Any help that you could give me regarding any of these three men and their households would be fantastic.
Thank you in advance if you can help.
Eddie
