I agree that I think it is a wind up, the person you met has just said the first thing that came into his head.

The number I quoted for the county buildings in Linlithgow deals with information for burials from 1855 onwards.  If you have some details regarding the approx year of death and surname they have an old burial book which then leads them to a reference of grave lairs.

You can pop in to the County Buildings during office hours to do a search, if you have the death certs it will make it easier but I have done traces without certs and by just knowing the approx year of death.

The County Buildings is in the middle of the high street in Linlithgow.

I would have thought your best options would have been Broxburn, Winchburgh, Kirkliston or Linlithgow.

There was a Livingston Street in Addiewell in the early 1900s (I don't know how long it existed before and after this time).  I am sure the houses there were for the workers at Addiewell oilworks.
