I got your reply to my email re Alexander Ross and Janet Gibson. Their son John Ross married a Janet Jack and their daughter Marion Ross was my ancestor (their granddaughter) 

Alexander and Janet's daughter Marion Ross did marry a William Adam who is therefore the aunt of my Marion Ross.

I have just found your posting and Alexander Ross and Janet Gibson are also my 4x great grandparents and my link is also through Marion Ross my 2x great grandmother. Like you I have got stuck looking for a birth for Alexander Ross.

If you are interested perhaps we could share information as I have loads down the way from Marion Ross and James Gilmour.
