Yes, saw that but it was not clear that it was him. If it was then where was Eleanor and William (Wm) and why was he here? He is present at her death in 1872 as when I first saw this 1871 entry I did wonder if they had split up.

I am in desperate need of help. I am trying to find an Eleanor Davies who married George Kirkham in 1863. Eleanor was born about 1837, place not known and George was born in about 1827, place possibly Lancashire.

They had a son in 1865 called William Kirkham but then there is not trace of Eleanor/Ellen until her death in 1872 from TB. I cannot find her or William at all in the 1871 census and there is only a tentative link to George as a lodger.

I know they married at Christchurch Monmouthshire, William was born in Newport and Eleanor died in 22 Cross Street, St Woolos and her fathers name on the marriage cert was Matthew and Georges father was John.

Any help finding Eleanor in the 1871 census or indication as to where she was born would be fantastic.

PS William is found living with relatives Swansea way in the 1881 census and George seems to have remarried although on Williams marriage cert he says his father was dead yet it does not seem George dies for a long time. Could there have been a split after Eleanor's death? :o

Hi Osprey,

On Ellen's marriage cert the only entry for the address is "Christ Church". I do not have the birth cert for Eleanor Jane yet.

Hi Cardiff

The copy of the 1863 certificate says Ellen Davis 26 Spinster at marriage.

I notice a mistake in my original post, she was born abt 1838 NOT 1828

Sorry

I can only clearly read one witness-

Thomas Jones

The other is Catherine Wail/Wait/Mait, really not too sure of her surname

I do not know where Ellen was born, only that she lived in Newport Mon at the time of her marriage and death. On her death cert and the birth cert for William she is down as Eleanor Davies but on her marriage cert she is Ellen Davis (might be ies as the surname is not too clear). Her father, Matthew is listed as a labourer and they were married in Christ Church on 26th May.

Thanks

I am trying this post again as I am getting nowhere with this search.

Ellen (Eleanor) Davis (Davies) born 1828, father Matthew
Married George Kirkham (born 1829, Lancaster) in Newport Mon 26 May 1863
Gave birth to William Kirkham in 1865
Died 13 Apr 1872 of pulminary TB, living at 22 Cross Street, Newport

I cannot find any information about Ellen on the census' prior to 1872. In 1871 a Bridget Lancaster was living there as she is listed as being arrested and sent to Usk goal. I cannot find William on the 1871 census. In 1881 William is living with relatives in Swansea.

Also in 1872 an Eleanor Jane Kirkham is born in the same quarter as Ellen dies and George remarries a Sarah James within months of Ellens death (Q3). I have found Ellens plot at St Woolos Cemetery but there is no headstone there.

Any help would be fantastic.
