Hello Kate!

I have found a website about the Tunstall Memorial Gardens & War Memorial which you might find interesting - it is very good as far as I can tell!

http://www.tunstall-war-memorial.org.uk/

I have also taken some photos  of the gardens, when I was visiting the library which is right beside them, yesterday. I hope they suffice! If you would like me to do something a bit different, please let me know!

Edit: Sorry - they seem a bit big, but if you want to look at them (& copy them if you'd like) the album they are hosted in is at this link http://s1369.photobucket.com/user/Magdalena76th/library/Tunstall%20War%20Memorial%20Gardens?sort=3&page=1

Hello Kate,

I have taken photos of that memorial several times, & I'd be happy to take some with your families names close up as well as any additional ones... I virtually live in Tunstall, the memorial gardens are a 20 minute walk from my place... Not sure what we have on this weekend, but I'll try to do it as soon as pos!

Warmly ~Meredith x

Staffordshire Lookup Requests / Re: Shugborough village in paintings

In times gone by great houses used to have settlements on their estate for the workers... At Chatsworth House there is a village very close by to this day, although it does have a church. I am not very familiar with Shugborough but I have moved to Stoke-on-Trent, not too far away... I could see what I can find out, or whether there are records accessible online for you...

Mow Cop  :D :D !! Lovely!! I can see the folly from my house! My partner is working up there tonight!

It's practically part of Stoke-on-Trent!

The border of Cheshire & Staffordshire actually runs through Mow Cop... it's tricky doing youth work up there, because various regional grants have cut-off zones & each thinks the other county should be covering the village on the border!

William, I have made a note of your family names in this area & wondered (if you're not from hereabouts yourself) whether you know that Stoke-on-Trent is in the "top corner" of Staffordshire? It is very close to the Cheshire border (about 2 miles from where I live) & Nantwich is not far into Cheshire. Shropshire is, likewise, very close by... I've made a note of your family names in those places - but alas, I don't know when I'll be in Northern Wales... my relations were in the South!

Hello William,

I have been looking into the records held at the Stoke-on-Trent Archives & there are some records for Bethesda. I work part time & have other, casual work, but when I can do some further research I will keep those family names in mind & let you know if I find anything for you! Let me know if there are any other church yards or cemeteries you're interested in records from in this area, as I am now living in Stoke-on-Trent, & have a reader's card for the Archives.

Hello Ticker,

I have been doing some transcribing of Memorial Inscriptions on the Find a Grave website, & have uploaded details of Jesse CLEWES, Elizabeth CLEWES & their daughter, Emma CLEWES memorial in the Bethesda Chapel Churchyard. It is one of just 3 memorials still standing in the former churchyard, most of them being removed, or laid flat at the edge of the area when it was turned into a park in the 1980s.

I found your request for information when looking on the web for possible photos of your forebears as I like to give as much information as possible. Here's the link to the details I've just uploaded to the internet. The different names are each a separate entry. (there is also a different family name included on the monument I think)  http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gsr&GScid=2350250

Edit: I just looked at my photographs of the memorial again, & the additional name is FINNEY, which is Jesse & Elizabeth's daughter, Ann. She married John FINNEY & is laid to rest with her parents & at least 3 siblings, Emma & 2 unnamed children.

If I have the opportunity to look into the records of Bethesda Chapel I intend to add to the Find a Grave information. I will let you know if I locate & can check them for further information on the CLEWES family.

Hope this helps! ~Meredith x
