Europe / Death in Switzerland
« on: Monday 27 February 12 13:15 GMT (UK)  »
Hello
An English relative of mine (Emily Edith Ridley) died on the 10th September 1926 whilst staying at the "Clinique La Prairie, Montreux" I was wondering if anyone knew what the situation is with getting information about death certs etc. from the Swiss authorities. I've done some research but it's fairly confusing? Any help would be appreciated.

Kind regards

Hello

I'm at the beginning stages with this enquiry, and so have very little information.

I'm trying to find out about the parents of Joseph Hoy (b. 1905 Gateshead) His Fathers name was William Hoy and his Mothers name was Mary Hoy (nee' Ridley).

I know this is'nt much to go on but it's all I have at present.

Any Help would be really appreciated

Kind Regards

Chris Ridley

Hello Melinda

I see that you are trying to find out about an Ann Leader nee Corcoran

I believe that her Son William born 21 Feb 1844 Christened 11 Mar 1844 Workhouse chapel Marylebone, is my GG Grandfather. He is recorded in the1861 Census RG08/130/45/21 as working as a potman in the Richman Arms P.H. in Blundell street Islington, which is where he met my GG Grandmother Jane Standley whom also lived in Blundell St at no. 7. They married in 1864 and lived at no 12 Blundell St where they raised 6 Children. William died in 1885, and Jane in 1922.

Ann Leader nee Corcoran is recorded in the 1881 Census as living in the Islington Workhouse. and I believe she died in 1886 at the Strand work house.

Hope this helps in some way

Kind regards

Chris

Thanks very much Devis and Kanskar

Things are becoming a little clearer now. I found a marriage between a Sarah Standly and a Richard Stevens in Portsea in 1849, and these dates tie in...so this could be a good possibility. I also found a marriage between an Anne/Jane Stanley (The transcription read Anne but the actual index is extremely poor so it could easily be Jane) and A William Leader in Shoreditch Middlesex in 1864.. so this is another good possibility.

I must say there is a variety of spellings for Standley, but they all seem to lead back to the Wareham family.

Thanks very much, this is brilliant stuff

Kind Regards

Chris

Once again Devis you've come up trumps.. thanks so very much for this latest information.

Blundell St Islington.. seems to be a common denominator. I've tried looking to see if I can find the marriage details of Richard and Sarah Stevens..so I can find her maiden name and therefore her sisters surname, but no luck yet...

Thanks once again

Kind regards

Yes Devis, thanks for that... Thats my my direct line... Alice was my G. Grandmother and Robert was my Grandfather... I've just about completed the Ridley side of my family research.. but actually know very little about the Leader side so any help is really appreciated..

Thanks so very much Carole for your prompt and helpful reply

I was just about to send a query about the discrepancies in age between the two Census (Cenci?) when I got another post from Devis with amended ages.

I have also just seen the posts about Jessie Emma (thank you Devis and Kath) I presume the name of the Family she worked for is not easy to read but is probally the same ? I do knows Jessie eventually got married in 1899 to a George Witts.

Thanks very much to all of you for helping me solve this query it's extremely interesting and very helpful.

Kind Regards

Chris

Hello

I'm trying to find out about my GG Grandmother Jane Leader (widow). She lived in Islington and was living in Blundell street in 1881 so she could possibly still be living there?

She probally would have had at least 3 of her children living with her .. Minnie, Florence and Jessie and possibly Earnest and William.

So if poss would any one be able to look in the 1891 and maybe the 1901 census for me, to see what information there is.

I would really appreciate this help.

Kind regards

Chris Ridley

Thank you so very much Monica

This is absolutely brilliant. And as my wife's mother's name was Alice and her uncle was James, it makes me lean toward the James Morris family, but I will take your advice and try and confirm by using SP.

John is the last member of our joint family that hasn't been researched because we had so little to go on. But thanks to you we now have a starting point and a direction.

Kind Regards

Chris
