Hi Damien,

Kidderminster Past is a facebook group. The link is www.facebook.com/groups/KIDDPAST.

If you post questions on there, normally somebody will answer them for you, as the people on there are very knowledgeable about old Kidderminster and also there are lots of photo's.

Regards

David

Hi,

Kidderminster Workhouse was located in Sutton Road, the site of the old Kidderminster Hospital. The only part still standing is the entrance lodge. If you join the facebook group 'Kidderminster Past and Present' they have loads of photo's of not only the workhouse, but also streets, churches and other items all relating to Kidderminster.

To answer your second question, most of the records you require will be held at The Hive in Worcester. This is the record centre for Worcestershire. If you go to the Worcestershire County Council web site and follow the link, it will show you what records they hold.

My family is from Stone, and my father thinks they are more likely the school building. This is located on the other side of the road to Stone House from the Church

Hello,

This may be of interest to you, regarding work undertaken by the Wyre Forest Historical Research Group about Kidderminster Workhouse.

Volunteers from the group have been involved with the Living the Poor Life project, in conjunction with the National Archives. As part of this nationwide project, they catalogued, in detail, the correspondence sent to the Poor Law Commission by the Guardians of Kidderminster Workhouse, set up after the Poor Law Amendment Act. These records are now held at the National Archives and went online in August 2010. They are searchable by name, place and keyword and are free to download at www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline.

It could be worth contacting West Mercia Police Headquarters in Worcester, as Frankley is or was part of the old Worcestershire Police area.

I upraded to FTM2011 last week, and for me there has been no problems. One thing though, is that you have to convert any trees in previous versions to the new version. This is a quick & painless process, and as it makes backups of the converted trees, they should still be readable in older versions.

So my advice would be to go for the upgrade, as long as your computer meets the requirements.

Shropshire / Hannah Matthews
« on: Saturday 03 April 10 18:08 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to trace more information about Hannah Matthews. I have found her on the IGI as being christened in Alvely on 21 Jun 1835, daughter of  Edwards Matthews & Ann ? She had a least 1 sister called Mary Ann Matthews, who was also christened in Alveley in Apil 1833.

I have looked on 1841 & 1851 census, so any extra help would be appreciated.

Thank you

Hi,

I've been to Worcester History Centre this morning and had a look for you.

In 1936 the occupants of 11 Poplar Road were

John Griffiths & Mercy Griffiths.

You may also be interested to know at 10 Poplar Road were

Cyril Griffiths & Gladys Maud Griffiths.

Hope this helps.
