Tyrone / John Beggs et al of Aughnacloy, County Tyrone
« on: Friday 14 March 14 16:56 GMT (UK)  »
John Beggs "successful merchant" born c1770-1780 or later, married Mary on 16 Sep 1815, Ballyeaston, Antrim, Ireland.  Mary's last name could be anything but based on children's and grandchildren's names might be Kerr/Cunningham/Daragh/Boyle.
John (and Mary) had at least nine daughters:
Susan Beggs (daughter #9) who married Manly Power Dudden,
Margaret Beggs (daughter #6) who married Thomas Hickey,
my great great-great-grandmother Maria Rebecca Beggs (daughter #8)  who married S G Morrison, and
"Daughter #4 of the Late John Beggs, relict of Moore Goodfellow (died c 1838) who married Stewart Simpson on 12 Aug 1839.
John Beggs may also have had sons James Stewart Beggs born 7 Apr 1822 and David Beggs.
So if anyone can provide clues to the names of John Beggs' children, it would be very much appreciated.
It is also possible that John Beggs had another wife ...
John Beggs passed away 25 Dec 1831
thankyou, Gail

just poking my nose into the conversation, uninvited, but if we haven't already corresponded, I am a g-g-g-g grandaughter of Dr William Warden 1777- 1849 and Elizabeth Hutt.
But your name rings an Alyth Bell???
Not that I can help much ... I'm looking for other descendants of the good surgeon, can't be just me and a dozen cousins!

Gabriella Richardina Dill Morrison (1857-1949 aka Ella) youngest child of Simpson Gabriel Morrison & Maria Rebecca Beggs married Dr George Cockburn Warden Jr (1856-1916) son of George Cockburn Warden 1824-1908) in 1881.
George Cockburn Warden's father was William Warden (1777-1849) of Alyth, Forfarshire, Scotland.

Those are just facts.  After this I have to go by "oral history".  Ella was "Scots-Irish", according to my grandmother, Ella's granddaughter.

Here in Canada many term their ancestors Scots-Irish, many have Scottish surnames but the family came from Ireland in the early 1800's to distinguish those who came because of the Irish Famine.  I have ancestors surnamed McClelland and Gordon that seem to be decidedly Scottish names, but declare on their gravestones "Native of Ireland".

So did the Simpson Gabriel Morrison come from Scotland?  Simpson and Morrison are also Scottish names.  Maria Rebecca Beggs was born in Aughnacloy Northern Ireland, according to some record.

I wonder if Heather Graham "Heppy" would like to add anything?

Others researching the family of Simpson Gabriel Morrison & Maria Rebecca Beggs and their 13 children & 80 grandchildren would like to know ...

So far I can only identify 12 of the 13.  A daughter married Holton Davin of Tipperary.

Further, I'm guessing that Simpson Gabriel Morrison may have been named after his mother, a Miss Simpson or Miss Gabriel.  Pure guess, have to look for a Mr Morrison who married a Miss Simpson or Miss Gabriel around 1810.

Note: when Rev Simpson Gabriel Morrison died in 1891 his sons-in-law were named!!!!  Good manners indeed not to give any female a name!!!

Hi Jimmy!

More Morrisons! and Begg's names.  My husband and I are off to Great Britain next week, and at this rate we'll have to go to Dublin!  we were "just" planning to visit the Lake District, Scotland, Northern Ireland, just hop around like a couple of bunnies for a couple of weeks.

I don't know anything further back than Simpson Gabriel M and Rebecca Beggs, my "newly" found ggg grandparents, but Im going to try to find out,

 Happy New Year,

it took a while for me to get in touch with Heather, and I sent her an email yesterday, I acquired a copy of Memories of Wicklow by Hanbidge, I'm not sure if it's the same family, asking her if she is familiar with "Memories".
You are a Morrison? what a beautiful portrait of our ancestor, the Rev Simpson.
Maybe next year my husband and I will get to Ireland, his family is from Bessbrook.

Cheers, Gail

Of course!

I had only just started to work on my great-great grandmother's (Gabriella R D Morrison) history, and since she was "adopted" I thought that Morrison was not her "real" surname, so I was quite surprised to see Heather Graham/Heppy's requests on a dozen or so websites asking for some information on Rev S G Morrison.

I was brought up not to ask my elders questions, which means that I couldn't learn about my own family history.  Now I'm positively nagging! My grandmother (1905-1973) adored her "Granny" Gabriella, my and uncle and late mother remember their great-grandmother with fondness.

So here's hoping Heppy will sign in soon and well make some headway on the descendants of the good Pastor.  Because Gabriella is my mother's mother's mother's mother, this makes it a case for doing DNA research.

I have four children, aged 19-25 and they're starting to ask about their heritage.  I tell them they are profoundly Canadian, their ancestors came to Canada for a good reason, but more and more it's looking like they can say "Irish" especially since they have Irish first names and an Irish last name, but that's another story.

I've been doing genealogical research for some 20 years now, the internet has assisted enormously of course.  I have traced back to the 1600s for nearly ALL my ancestors, and right there that means some 1,000 g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-grandparents, give or take.

Weve just had our first real snow of the season, there was a fox scampering around our house, a red squirrel is hopping about, the snow has frozen into sparkling lumps of ice, the sun is dazzling and thatk you for your response and ....

Hello!

I've just chanced on Heather Graham's (Heppy) appeals for information about the Dubliner Rev Morrison 's large family.  I 'm pretty sure that he is my great great great grandfather, and I've sent emails to the two email addresses provided by Heather, but both have bounced.  I see from her profile she is some 67 years old, am I too late??
If anyone has taken up the challenge of tracking down Rev Morrison's 80 plus grandchildren and heavens knows how many g-g or g-g-g or g-g-g-g grandchildren please get in touch, Gail
