Have not used Rootschat since 2005, since the very knowledgeable Mike Fenn did most of the work for me on my wife’s family (Fenn), so please excuse any breaches of protocol.

Now going to start on mine. Gooding, Ipswich. My starting place is dad. Leonard James Gooding abt 1884, Ipswich. Later (?) married Julia Emma Wilding.

I shall of cause appreciate any information from Suffolk Census Lookup

No I am not tracing our family back to the aristocracy! It's a pub with very close ties to the Fenn family of that parish.

If anyone has any stories, information or in particular early pictures circa 1880. I would appreciate a copy. I will gladly refund any expenses incurred. I believe there is at least one photograph in existence of the landlord Samuel Fenn and one of his sons standing by the door.

Wow - Wow. Hold it everyone. I have just proved my own stupidity.
See Suffolk Lookup Requests 1871 Census reply by Krisesjoint, giving me the 1861 census. I miss-read it. Sorry  sorry sorry.  :-[ :-[ :-[
I would still appreciate anything earlier but would not be surprised to be told to do my own digging.

Thank you everyone for your help and advice.
I 'think' I have the idea better now. I must get to grips with what is available and how it is best found. I guess I was trying to jump hurdles with short legs!
Just one other small thing I must admit to is I have no idea what an index would show. That is as in index first  mentioned by Hackstaple.

Thanks again for all your help

Ref my request in Suffolk Lookup: 1841 -1851 census - Ward . 24 views 0 replies!

1) Have I asked too much and given too little?
2) Am I being too impatient?
3) Have I come to a dead end.

I have no intentions of getting off on the wrong foot so early in this new (for me) venture and would appreciate advice.

Technical Help / Re: I Have outgrown my computer

Hi Celia

Judging by your animated crest you are not a complete 'comperdum'. That said I must point out that CD-RW is not the best medium to 'add' data to, it is more intended to erase and re-write. You can keep adding data (not music) to a standard CD until it is full and at about 20p per disk it is a very cheap way to store pictures.
With most programs such as 'Nero' it is a simple mater of drag and drop.
Installing a CD is not exactly rocket science but please don't open your puter unless you know what you are doing. There are plenty of geeks about that would be only too pleased to do it for you. (usually someones grand son!!!!)
BTW floppy's are a good media for small files like picture, I have some recorded in the early 90's however as with all technology built in obsolescence comes into play. The floppy drive is becoming a thing of the past. Lots of new puters don't have em!
I hope I haven't confused more than helped - if so just bear in mind the old expression 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'

Lots of luck
Lo ;D
