He married Martha Nightingale Brignull as David (Free BMD Marriage Index Marriages Dec 1871

Hope this might be of use

Sussex Lookup Requests / Re: Burwash Registers

Hi Chris, Thanks for that. Yes John or Jonathon was a son of George and grandson of Richard. I seem to have exhausted all google hits for now, hoping that more information will be added at a later date.

In Richards will he states that his son James (my 4th great grandfather) was "lately departed leaving four children" I have found one on IGI born in Dover; William Austen, (my 3rd great grandfather) the others could have been born anywhere as he was in the military.

Thanks again for your help

Thank you Chris, I had some of the years but the dates and names of the ministers helped a lot. Could you clarify the entry on James? What does "(quere)" and "(qre) clerk says George" mean?

Richard Waddell (my 5th great grandfather) was born in Ruckinge and moved to Burwash in about 1790. According to his will he became very wealthy, I found a reference to him at the  National Archives regarding a mortgage he held on "Little Batemans Estate" in Burwash. (Rudyard Kipling later owned it). Considering he seems to have been quite successful there isn't that much else I have found out. Could you recommend where I could look to find out more about him and his family?

I would like to take Chris up on his offer to look up entries in the Burwash parish registers. I am researching the Waddell family who I believe moved to Burwash from Ruckinge, Kent about 1790. Any information you have will be appreciated.
Regards, Cloak
