My gggrandmother was born Ann Malcolm in 1789 and died in Dundee in 1841> her father was named William Malcolm. All I know is he died possibly in 1804 based on a reference in the Howff burial records.

Thanks for the heads up. I had been looking for Bremner, and not Bramner,  and never found them in the 1861 census. I went on Scotland's People and found the copy of the census information. I would appear that John Bremner had already " gone abroad" by that date since Margaret is listed as the Head of the household. Now his birth and his death are a mystery, but your information filled the gaps.
I was aware of the Brebner web site. That is how I first found the family.

It is my family. Jessie was named Janet at birth, but all the other information fits. I am not sure what you posted that was deleted for copywright reasons. I have not been able to confirm Margaret Ritchie in a census before 1851. It appears that her parents may have died young.

I have traced my gggrandfather to a birthdate about 1830. According to the 1851 census he is married to Margaret Ritchie and living in South Leith. It states that he was born in Cupar, Fife. I have been unable to find any record of his birth in Scotland's People records, or with any other internet search. Anyone have any records that would help. I have found no other records of a Bremner family in Cupar.
