World War Two / Royal marine

Hi

Hopefully I’m in the right place , I had an uncle who I’d heard was in the Royal Marines during WW2 , I kind of took this with a pinch of salt , however I did try the Army records office, they had no record of him.

I forgot about it til today.

I was in the local record office and found two newspaper articles, one in which he’d been picked up in his home town as a deserter , the other described him as an agricultural engineer and ex-marine.

I haven’t found anything on FindMyPast or Ancestry either….

Can someone point me in the right direction?

And his mother in laws maiden name was Hogwood . Or Hogswood or Trogwood depending on the record….

Hi all I don’t believe this is him . I saw it and did wonder thinking his name had been mistranscribed ( a J instead of an F ). I recall talking about him to my older cousin who told me he’d died young , apparently drowned.
But the story does say drowned so I’d think it comes under the heading of a possible….

I have his marriage cert and it is him…. Thank you all

One uncle was a tank driver and captured in WW2,the other was Navy as was my father.

Is it correct that there were four brothers, sons of Silas and Amelia?

1912  Silas Sidney John
1914  John Samuel James
1915  Cecil George French
1917  Herbert Kitchener

I can see the whole family, including the married daughters, in Penge in 1939, except for John and Cecil.

There are artillery attestations for Silas and John before the war in 1930, Herbert in 1932, and Cyril George French in 1931.

Debra  :)

I’ve just reread this on the train and realised what was written ( sorry Debra ) where could I find the attestations please?
John especially he was my Dad
Thank you

Yeah I did Google it , very difficult to find he disappeared really in the 60s ( committed to hospital I believe) and has quite a reasonably common name - no middle name either. I think it’s possible I’ve found him on electoral role in early 2000s roughly in the same area last known….

Hi I’ve been looking at the 1939 register hoping to shed some light on what happened to one of my uncles. I believe he could be there as he was 4yo in 1939 , however there’s a black line saying’ this record is officially closed’.

From what i have worked out I believe he was fairly likely to have been alive in 1966 and possibly 1973.

He was hospitalised in the early 60s so I assumed the the black line was some sort of ID protection.

I’d like to try and find out what happened to him but seeing as he was born in 35 he could possibly be alive today aged 88 , and don’t wish to cause any issues .

Bit stuck really…..
