Hi Adam

Thanks many. They are my family and the dates help greatly. Recently got to the north east for the first time and really enjoyed the short time I spent there. Planning a longer stay this year.

Thanks Linda

Hi

Thank you for the info. John married Ann moor in 1860. She came from Dalton on Tees. They went on to live in Willington and have 8 children. I have John as a lodger in Willington in 1851. All the cenus returns say he was born in Southchurch which I have been told was Auckland St Andrews.

I will try the pedigrees again. I think sometimes you look at things so much that you miss the obvious.

Thank you again for your help

Linda

Good morning Lazarus,Thankyou for the information. This John definately didn't go to either America or Australia but his son george did for a while. I tried the other links but still cannot find him. I have managed to trace him back to 1851 but the trail goes cold from there. His marriage certificate states his father is a George who is a shoemaker but cannot find this connection either. I thought he may be methodist because John and his wife baptised their many children in the mehtodist religion.Thank sLinda

Hi Lindamm

There is a comprehensive list of pedigrees for the Longstaff and its variations mainly in the north of england at this link  http://homepage.ntlworld.com/carole.johnson40/PEDIGREES.htm . I myself am descended from the Barnard Castle pedigree. There is an entry in non conformist BMDs for a John Longstaff in 1823 Durham at this link (hopefully) http://www.rootschat.com/links/06my/

Hi Thank you for your help. I have looked at Carole Johnson many times and still cannot find a connection to this John Longstaff. I tried your other link but unfortunately it wasn't him. This ancestor is becoming very elusive. ;)

I have been looking for a long time for John Longstaff born circa 1822 in Auckland St Andrews, Durham. It now appears the family may have been Methodist. Any ideas where I can find Methodist records for this area.

Hi Paulene.

Thank you so much for the info. I haven't had time to try the links yet, this work thing keeps getting in the way :)

Will try them later and let you know how I get on.

Hi Adam

Thanks many for the info. It is helping piece together our family history. I live in Derbyshire and am a full time carer so travelling north is a no go at the moment. I really appreciate your help
