Hi Twitter

Since we last spoke I have done quite a lot of work on the Croziers (various spellings) in this area.  To date they all link back to a John (1788) and Robert Crozier (1795) who were born in Linton Roxburgh  to a John Crozer (sic) and Janet Stevenson.

I have ordered the film for Glassford since it states that there are burials from 1733 to 1807.  This should help fill in the pre-1855 deaths (note I said should  ::) )  Have you looked at this?

There is also another film for baptisms up to 1832-1891.  I haven't seen any films post 1854 so will be interested to know what this one contains.

If there is anything in particular you were searching for, just say so, when the film arrives I am happy to check it if you have not already done so.

Lodger, thank you for the link to the Statistical Accounts, I had forgotten about those  :-[  They confirm that there was thriving weaving industry in this small village.  All the Croziers were weavers.

Twitter, thank you for the information you put together on Margaret Menzies and her link to the Crozier families.

The monumental inscriptions were invaluable.  With what has been provided here and via Scotlands People I have been able to link all these families and take them back to a place called Linton in Roxburgh.  From what I have found thus far, it would appear that 2 brothers, John and Robert came to Glassford around the beginning of the 19th century.  They were baptised in Linton to parents John Crozier and Janet Stevenson.  Twitter, I am happy to help with certificate information if you are interested in pursuing these lines.

A father and son Crozier has both married Brownlies, I am beginning to think that everyone in the village will have some sort of connection either through blood or marriage.  I certainly indeed to hire the parish registers.

Once again many thanks for your help.  Do you know if it is possible to buy a booklet of the MI's ... it might come in very handy along the way.

Kind regards
Sharon

Thanks to Lodger and Twitter for all that info  :D

Since Glassford seems to be such a small village (I have looked at various maps) I am inclined to think all these families are related.

John Crozier abt 1809 died 1885 - parents John Crozier and Jane Brownlie (Jane perhaps a mistake and should read Helen?)
Robert Crozier (married to Jean Bell) died 1882 - parents John Crozier and Helen Brownlie

What is given on certificates and census I have found is that these families live in Westquarter.  Noted on old maps that this is around, or has become the village of Glassford.  Am I correct in this assumption?

Lots to work on  ::) again, many thanks
Sharon

Lodger

I amend my previous statement.  Family search shows an Archibald Crozier son of John Crozier and Helen Brownlie born Glassford 1810.  Since my particular family also has Brownlie I suspect some sort of relationship.

Janet Crozier (spouse Shearer) could be the dau of Archibald Crozier and Margaret Scott or Robert Crozier and Margaret Menzies mentioned previously.

I am thinking they must all be connected somehow as the names are all the same.  Is it too much trouble to ask for the transcription of these headstones?

Much appreciated

Thank you for that Lodger

None of those names ring a bell, but then I have only just started looking at this family.

names I am looking at are John Crozier, father of Robert Crozier (1809 - 1886).  Associated names are Brownlie and Wood from the Glassford area.

Much appreciated nonetheless.

Kind regards

I was reading with interest the comments on Glassford cemetery and also the name of Crozier.

I am researching the Crozier family from Glassford for a friend.  I am just wondering if there are multiple headstones for that name or if the one you quoted for Robert is the only one.

Thanks

Just wondering if anyone was researching the above names in Sligo.  My Great grandfather was George William Phair who was married to Catherine Smiley daughter of William Smiley.

Would love to compare notes if you are related

Much to my surprise I see this thread is my family.  :o

Margaret McLean born Boharm 1820 is my 2 x gt grandmother.  Margaret had 3 children, Alexander Dow, Isabella Munro and Jessie Jack.  Jessie Jack is my great grandmother.  I have much more information on this family and would be happy to share information.

I am particularly interested in finding where these researchers fit into the family equation.
