I would be a bit anxious putting wet chips in to hot fat ,the chip pan could boil over !
In Belgium they cook the chips until just soft  enough, take the basket out of the oil, get that really hot and flash the basket back in for a couple of seconds and then drain well.
They are lovely and not too greasy.

A sunny but cold day here.
Flood warnings ,probably at Stubbins further up river where there iis a device which sends warnings to a flood station .
The land is high on one side but very low on the other.
The park in Ramsbottom is low lying and does flood fairly often as the river has a big meander there .

Well, The Duchess of York seems to be mixed up with Epstein now!
Honestly -such wealth and privilege and yet huge debts and scandals—

Well another week, they do fly by .

“ We don’t know we are born,” an old saying that means we are not so badly off, certainly there are others much poorer.

I must be a real old fuddy duddy, I can’t get accustomed to people having items which to me seen not absolutely necessary ,yet they have them and are short of money.
I can’t imagine them coping with every member of their family out of work, no state benefits or pensions.
It is hard to believe the depth of poverty that was the norm in many areas as industries failed and so imports grew so unemployment also soared.

Imagine what would happen today if men who had fought a war ,some for four years ,came back to mass unemployment and no unemployment pay ,no free health care or medications, no family allowance or maternity grants .
That was how it was in the 1920’s and 1930’s , WW2 created jobs otherwise the depression would have continued much longer.
Foreign holidays were unknown as for many was a day at Blackpool!

It is all relative and I don’t wish such deprivation again but I do feel budgetting ought to be a compulsory subject at schools!
Essentials sorted first then enjoyment secondary.
Our luxury was to have no debt but we hadn’t much else either !
It was the norm though and many were in the same situation so we did not feel deprived , just lucky we could “pay our way” .

Times change and attitudes too.
I am sometimes a bit  taken aback at my lovely grandchildrens’ life styles, and think “ that is not a necessity - we would not have done that “ but I say nothing ,times change and I suppose my parents might have tutted at us having a holiday when we had a mortgage to pay, but we had no debt so we did have the occasional treat.
Such hard times within living memory and seemingly so again even today with benefits etc, imagine having nothing, nothing at all !

It is upsetting thinking just how hard it has been for people.

I wonder if it is the letters on a square grid ?
So one letter is the North to South line and the other is East to West for example ,so where they cross is CH. But it would depend how large the cemetery is , that would only pertain if the cemetery had 26 rows N- S and 26 E-W . unless there were  double letters afterZ.

Husband's dad had a banana a day all his life that I know of, certainly since marriage anyway and recall one time when boats didn't come in and there was a shortage, M-i-l drove all over the city to find any! He was known among teaching colleagues for bringing one every day for his lunch and jokes and poems etc ensued when he changed schools  :D

And yes, an overload of world news to be avoided!

I can remember when bananas came back in my parents green grocery shop, after the war had finished.
Canary bananas still on the stalks, in long boxes ,Elder and Fyffes ,
A scorpion scrambled out of one, Dad killed it with the poker!

Good morning folks, well a severe yellow weather warning here - we had a cloudburst on Saturday ,our road,at the foot of Holcombe Hill, is steep and it was just like a raging torrent after a cloudburst !

Son back but computer not sorted out ,disagreement re which department is
liable!

I can’t have bananas and I love them ,too much Potassium it seems ,not good with one of my medicines .

Well there is very little we can do re all the problems in the world, watched a programme this morning -Afghanistan ,how the only maternity clinic has closed .Women and babies dying ,thanks to the Taliban.

Oh if only women ruled the world, then you think of Mrs Marcos!

Glad your eyes are improving Caw, hope things go O.K at the opticians.

Aren’t young people brave today, all that travel for your grand daughter L.M.

Well baby Lily is looking as if she is considering starting to crawl.
It is so important for future development that they crawl ,she is a bonny bouncy baby ,no lightweight which might have contributed to the delay.
Latest video is her sucking her toes! Really enjoying it!

Well no Bargain Hunt today, flipping athletics !
Must say the women’s Rugby ,England vScotland was good,
So little fouling in the women’s games -football too.

Hope all are safe, but knowing quite a few have health issues I wish you all have some improvement .

P.S. reading a book from the charity shop ,a lovely coloured photograph fell out ,a llittle boy ,so lovely .Someone will be very sad, there was also a transatlantic plane ticket ,used as a bookmark I think .
I will take the photograph to the shop , perhaps they could put it up so if the donor of the books goes in again they would see it and could get it back.
A very new photo, no creases or marks at all.
Well cool here today so must get moving .
Thanks for the news .look after yourselves .
