Suffolk / Re: Rattlesden - Allwood Family

A Daniel Blo(o)mfield was my 7x gt grandfather and I have several Robert Blo(o)mfields in my tree.  I'll go through the Will and see if there's evidence that they are in my FT.

Added:
I see what you mean about the bequest to Mary Allard as she was buried 10 Sept 1810 at Wetheringsett.  However there is another possible error in the transcription of the Will namely the line relating to the bequest to  'Robert Bloomfield of Gillingham' which I suspect should be Gislingham.

I've been through the Will so now have a lot of Bloomfields to check out in my tree.  I may be gone for some time....   ;D

My family (the Pearle family) came from Rattlesden and I've traced them back to 1540.  I can't find any reference to Allwood/Allard in my family tree.  However, looking at Free Reg there are parish records on there for Wetheringsett where I found the marriage of James Allard and Mary Petter on 17 May 1773 at Wetheringsett.  On 2 December of the same year there are also records of two baptisms at the church:
Child: John Allwood
Father: James Allwood
Mother: Mary Allwood
Note in Register:  Twin of James

Child: James Allwood
Father: James Allwood
Mother: Mary Allwood
Note in Register: Twin of John

Sadly on 17th Dec of that year there is a record of the burial of John Allwood.

That's fascinating Vance; thanks so much for all that information and in particular the links.  Looks like I'm going to have hours of fun with that!

Interesting how the Garnons were making a habit of trespass, but it could just be that there was a lot of ill-feeling in that area.

Hello Rootytoots
Thomas Garnham b.  1524, died 1591, Gosbeck, Suffolk was my 10x gt grandfather.  I believe that as we go back in time the name is sometimes written as Garnon.  Other than that I don't know a lot about him was by coincidence I was thinking recently that I should go back & do more work on the Garnham family.

My attempt to fill in the gaps:  (one still remaining)

Dear Mr Stonyer, Many thanks for your card from Tewkesbury
which was very welcome.  I hope you had a pleasant
ride and that the weather was fine.    It is a very interesting card which you sent me and I thank you for the same.
Glad to hear that you are enjoying yourself as is right - allow
me to wish that you continue to do so!  I have read
a book "John Halifax, Gentleman" and therefore the house
you mention brings back pleasant memories to me when
you tell me that you are staying there.  I hope you will be successful
in getting some ? facts/effects/notes/fees? and you must not
think of them turning out failures - it will be impossible.
With kind regards.

As he was living in Leiston I'm wondering if he was working on the construction of Sizewell nuclear power station, the first of which - Sizewell A -  was commenced in the 1960s.  I know a lot of people were attracted to the area at that time because of the variety of jobs available.

Armed Forces / Armed Forces deaths post WW2
« on: Sunday 12 January 25 21:09 GMT (UK)  »
My friend and I have been researching the WW1 & WW2 deaths for my village, both those listed on the war memorial as well as those which have been omitted.  As a follow-on to this we are now thinking of the post WW2 conflicts and wondering where we could find records of the fallen in such conflicts as Korea, Malaya, Kenya, Aden, Cyprus, Falklands etc.  We'd appreciate any suggestions as to where we should be searching.

Many thanks in advance
